My Testimonials

April 3, 2008
Krista has good taste in burqas.

Krista has such a warm heart, I can feel it glow all the way from Turkey. She is a friend and a wit and a keen observer of life, who happens to always be able to find the silver lineing in any cloud. Her posts invite fairness and civility a rare quality in us tribal talkers.

As a Muslima, Krista has taught me to undersand Islam as a religion of Feminism. She has held my hand through my own mistaken diatribes, and helped me understand tha Hijab is liberating. I am ever grateful to her for accepting this curious and ignorant Christian, and helping me understand the beauty and strength of her religion.

As a friend, we have shared about home, and family, and fashion, and art, and found a comradery of interests that is such a comfort, such a support to us as we go about our solitary business keeping our homes and raising our children. Because Krista is my friend, I tell everyone I know what i have learned from her about Islam, and hopefully spread the word of truth and tolerance on this side of the planet.

Krista is my long, lost twin, I swear! I really enjoy talking with her. She offers an intelligent and insightful voice to the Tribe community, and a sincere heart as well. I'm thankful to have met her here on Tribe!

Peace, Salihah

I grew up mostly in Seattle, WA. I am now living in Istanbul, Turkey working to help establish some deaf programs there. I love new experiences and am always looking for something new to do.These days, I stay busy with my wonderful husband and beautiful baby daughter. As you set out for Ithaka
hope your road is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
angry Poseidon- don't be afraid of them:
you'll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians, Cyclops,
wild Poseidon- you won't encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope y... read more

Some poems of Sappho of Lesvos....

******************************************

It's no use

Mother dear, I
can't finish my
weaving

You may
blame Aphrodite

soft as she is

she has almost
killed me with
love for that boy

***************************************

Sleep, darling

I have a small
daughter called
Cleis, who is

like a golden
flower

I wouldn't
take all Croesus'
kingdom with love
thrown in, for her

This is a poem written by the martyred Meena (1956-1987). An advocate for women rights in Afghanistan and a powerful voice for social activism and who spoke out against the Russian Occupation.
Meena was the founder of RAWA which endures to this day as a beacon of hope for Afghani women.
Meena was assassinated by agents of KHAD (Afghanistan branch of KGB) in Pakistan on February 4, 1987.

This is one of my all time favorite speeches. Not just because I have some Irish heritage but because so many people from so many different countries all around the world can identify with the words of this speech, no matter how long ago it was written.
May we pray for peace and justice for all....

Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847) was a great Irish statesman, called the Liberator of Ireland. He led a movement that successfully forced the British to pass the Catholic Emancipation Act of 1829, ... read more

*Adventure*

A man practices the art of adventure when he heroically faces up to life...When he says like Frank Crane: My soul is a Columbus, and not watery wastes, nor glooming mysteries...shall send me back, nor make me cry 'Enough!'

When he has the daring to open doors to new experiences and to step boldly forth to explore strange horizons.

When he is unafraid of new ideas, new theories and new philosophies.

When he has the curiosity to experiment...to test and try new ways of... read more
