Please join us at our Winter Solstice Celebration on Friday, December 21st, at 6:45pm. Using music, ritual, fire, drumming, and singing we will welcome the sun back from the edge of darkness, and set our own intentions for the coming year. This is one of the most powerful events in our yearly calendar. It is designed to speak to the depths of our collective psyche and to our individual, yearning hearts. Please arrive promptly at 6:45pm (remember, allow time for parking and finding a seat!). Enter in reverence for the heartbeat of the drum and in anticipation of the coming light. A gift of some finger food to share after the service would be welcomed by all!
The sun begins its journey of increasing light on December 21st, the Winter Solstice, just as it has from the time of the birth of our solar system. Encoded into our very cells is the mystery of the darkest time of our seasonal cycle. At this time of year, we are immersed in the energy of the earth just as the hibernating bears are. We intuitively know what to do when the sun is low in the southern sky and its light is milky white. We know that rest, rejuvenation, sleep, meditation, mending, story-telling, and lying fallow are the things to do. We also know that the soul-nourishing experience of sitting in the mystery of rebirth is upon us.

of the state budget. Meanwhile, the costs to our environment, our
quality of life, and our confidence in state government would be
incalculable.
Let's kill this idea before it gets any further. Click here to tell the
governor to back off of this wrong-headed move. And please, forward

Sound can affect us on all levels: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Each area of the body has its own natural resonating frequency. The GOLDEN GATE CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL LIVING SUNDAY SERVICE will meet at 10:00 am (or a little before) at the Mill Valley Community Center (180 Camino Alto, Mill Valley) on this coming Sunday, June 22. We will celebrate the Summer Solstice with drumming, singing, movement, ritual, fellowship, and a wonderful message from Rev. Dr. Lloyd Tupper and myself. Our talk title is, “May the Light Shine in Us.” We will give you the ancient and modern view of the Light from the Eternal Day.
We will have “Dance Chant” music from Bodhi and RHYTHM MATRIX. Bring your drums for some drumming before the service.
The Summer Solstice is a potent time for the collective consciousness of everyone on earth. It is the moment when the northern hemisphere is tilted most directly toward the sun. The result on earth is the longest day and shortest night of the year.
Our ancestors celebrated on this day, giving thanks for the light and heat, which comes in yearly cycles and which enables seasons to roll and crops to grow and mature. It was a time of high activity, huge bonfires to replicate the light and heat of the sun, and gratitude for a harvest that was assured.
Today, we still feel full of energy at this time of midsummer. Many of us stay up late out of doors enjoying the weather and the comfort of being able to walk in nature without a jacket. It is a time when gratitude comes easy. It is so wonderful to build the habit of giving thanks when there is so much to be thankful for; it makes it easier for us to go to gratitude in times of distress.
We will have a special ritual for the Summer Solstice facilitated by our Practitioners after the service. This is a ritual for couples, a pair of friends, families, or individuals.
We expect many more people than usual at the service on Sunday, so please plan on coming a bit early. There is a large parking lot, which may be full as 10:00 approaches. There is a school to the southeast of the Community Center; we can park at the school and walk across the field to the Center. How about bringing your friends? That would help with parking, gas consumption, and you would have a navigator with you and someone to go out to lunch with after the service.
