alright- so I've never done this blog thing before and I'm not a big fan, but I think its appropriate for me to post about my experience with the Tiesto In Concert show in LA because so many of my tribe friends knew about my pending adventure (only something this big could drag me away from pennsic!). The whole experience overall was incredible. I was flown out to LA and got to stay at a fancy hotel and get paid to do video mixing and dance! The fact of the matter is that it was a lot of hard work and tons of pressure!! I've already started having anxiety dreams for the Miami show. The video mixing stuff went really well. I am working as an assistant to my boss/mentor/friend who travels with tiesto all the time. All i have to do is juggle the live images in my mixer for the best shot and send that over to his mixer so he can mix the live cams in with his content- his mixer goes out the the 3story video wall constructed for the set. Its all happening live and i had to be on point, but not too much stress there. The hard part was then running back stage and getting in performance mode. My song is mixed live- so its hard to know exactly when i'm on and its a short piece so i kinda feel like i just jumped out there and did a few moves and it was all over before i could even think about it. then i had to change quickly and get back to video mixing. I definately felt the energy of the crowd though and I love that part of it! i was terrified to know that i was being projected on the huge video wall behind me. There is a unique challenge involved when you are super tiny on a huge stage, but also super huge on a big screen. The show incorporated a lot of other professional performers including aerialists, handbalancers, bungi dancing, and samba dancers. The dressing room situation was kinda intimidating because they all worked together and knew each other and were all incredibly in shape! The best thing was being part of the video crew all week. The people that put on that show were some of the best- from set design, to lighting and sound- true professionals (worked with madonna, sting, fleetwood mac, dave matthews, etc). The laser show was mind blowing and pyrotechnics- the whole deal! They didn't sell out, but there were about 10,000 people in attendance. There is a short web video on the website www.tiestoinconcert.com under the Los Angelos gallery "video". I'm in it for a hot second! Anyways- I was exhausted and happy to have it over with, but i'd do it again in a minute...or in three weeks in Miami! here's a glimpse at what the makeup artist did to me (more pictures in my album)
