It snowed for the first time this Fall. We were supposed to only get 1-2 inches but it snowed 10!!! So I didn't go to work. We barely got my oldest son home. The van is at the bottom of the hill. That was when it had only snowed a little bit yesterday at 11:30 in the morning. You'd think that Kansas Citians would be used to snowy conditions. We are. We just aren't used to single digit tempratures. I don't care what anyone thinks. When it's this cold out I don't want to go outside. I did let the kids go out for a few minutes when it was about 11 degrees and the sun was shining this afternoon. I'm out of soup. Just warmed up the last can a few minutes before this post. I may have to break down and go to the store. Maybe tomorrow when it's supposed to be 28 degrees. I can hand temps in the 20's. That's warm compared to this.

Went and saw this Gypsy punk band last night. It was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Not only was it good music but good enertainment. I don't think I've every seen someone pass a giant bass drum out on to the audience then climb on top of it and beat it while the audience was supporting both the drum and the singer on top. Can't say enough good things about these performers. They are a must see just for the energy level they emit.

The first weekend of fest is over, six more to go. I remember when I used to look forward to it and get all excited at the prospect of it starting. Does too much of a good thing become bad? I can't imagine making my living any other way but it just doesn't compare to an SCA event. Now it seems like 7 weekends of a messy house and stacked up dirty dishes.

I got a real part time job for the first time in 8 years. I don't see how people sit on their butts in front of a computer 8 hours a day. I thought it would be nice to have a paycheck in the winter months. And it's a job that has to do with my degree. Thank goodness it's only part time. I am one that is not made to fit the mold. Actually, I think most people aren't meant to fit today's normal. The Indians had it right about being migratory. I used to hate putting up the pavilion and tearing it down after a show. Now it makes me feel good to be able to move around and use my muscles instead of moving a mouse.

The nice thing about fest is all the people I only get to see that time of year. It's like we have 7 wknds to hang out and catch up on what we've been doing the last 40 weeks. I like to watch the season change from late summer to fall. The temp goes from sweltering hot to blissful cool to sometimes snow. And I come home totally exhausted ready to fall in bed.

This year was kinda strange. I wasn't excited about going for the first time ever. Then when I got there I had such a blast I didn't want to come home. Well, at least back to mundania. The weather was great. Sells were better than usual considering the high price of gas. Most importantly, I reconnected with a lot of friends and had a great time hanging out with people. I also feel more mentally stimulated than I have in a long time. I think people get sucked into everyday life so much that they don't have a chance to have thier brains stimulated. I realized that being outdoors, talking to people, dancing everynight, and having only live music going on gets the mental juices flowing. Having no electronical devices to entertain me or think for me freed my mind up from so much clutter that keeps fresh ideas from popping up. I feel rejuvenated and ready to deal with what ever life dishes out again.
