In response to a friend request by
people.tribe.net/12d14c5e-...b3828fbc42

Why should I put you as a friend?
I have never seen you before.
Why do you need me to learn Karate?
Why do you only have one photo?
I think I would like to hear how you view
yourself first. Start a conversation
and let me see who you are.

At this point, I must tell you that
perhaps this is unfortunate,
a bad coincidence, but some man
came up to me as I exited a shopping
center with two women friends of mine
some weeks ago.

He asked me if I wanted to learn to
defend myself. I told him that if one
goes looking for 'action', one will find it.

He then asked me what I would do
(he couldn't seem to take no for an answer)
if I had a female friend who was being raped,
How would I defend her?

Then I told him with some outraged vigor
that if a man searches out evil, it will come to
him, and he asked me how I could believe
this, and I told him I had it on the authority
of countless rabbis over thousands of years.

In all truth I felt the man was accosting me.

And of course he did not know that one of the
women, actually two sisters, with me, had
been raped while on vacation in Australia
by a man who had slipped her some drugs.

The girl is barely 19 now.

I could barely contain myself.

While I was in that store, I had been thinking
of the occasion of this event concerning this woman,
whom I very much had grown fond of since
having greater acquaintance with, and I
myself had put out some menacing thoughts
as to how I would have defended her, had
I been there. So therefore you can see
this cycle, and perhaps understand why
I do not wish to be your friend at this time.

Paul Bunyan Approaches Briareus W/ Axe

So he does. He begins chopping at one of his legs.

Briareus just stands there.

As Paul is chopping through one leg, another one grows down from Infinity
And touches the earth.

This pisses Paul off way too much, so he climbs up and starts hacking at a head.

Briareus grows a new one.

This goes on for a while.

Paul is chopping heads off with each whack of his tremendous axe.

Briareus is instantaneously growing multiple heads with each new decapitation
from Bunyan, so many that Paul can't see all of them in each moment's stroke.

Paul even splits skulls vertically, leaving them hanging, but he knows he has lost.

They just seal back up.

Paul grows tired.

He finally realizes that Briareus is not a tree.

He goes back to chopping wood.

Somewhere a woodpecker is pecking wholes into some old oak's bark,
planting acorns in each one, as if filling his cupboard for later use... (while smiling)

A Taste of Wisdom from the Zohar...

The Destiny of the Soul

At the time that the Holy One, be blessed, was about
to create the world, he decided to fashion all the souls
which would in due course be dealt out to the children
of men, and each soul was formed into the exact out-
line of the body she was destined to tenant.
Scrutinizing each, he saw that among them some would
fall into evil ways in the world. Each one in its due time
the Holy One, be blessed, bade come to him, and then
said: Go now, descend into this and this place, into
this and this body.

Yet often enough the soul would reply: Lord of the
world, I am content to remain in this realm, and have
no wish to depart to some other, where I shall be in
thralldom, and become stained.

Whereupon the Holy One, be blessed, would reply:
Thy destiny is, and has been from the day of thy
forming, to go into that world.

Then the soul, realizing it could not disobey, would
unwillingly descend and come into this world.

A Pocketful of Nothing

With my friends set about a table,
I sit and take in their faces,
Bright and warm like children
Tucked in tightly, a cool contentedness
On their languished tongues, their
Foreheads vaulted like obstacles
To featlessly leap over; I feel
Like a man walking and making
An eventual friend of gravity,
Lying down on a gentle slope,
Hands out and their backs to
The smooth cushioning blades of
Grass, astounded by their total lack of
Abrasiveness, feeling as if I am reading
The first person account of my life
In a sitting room, lounging back in a private chair--
Smoke making a film a foot thick hovering
Just below the ceiling; knowing the uncontested
Development of things.
.......................................... I find so soon
That I feel more in tune with the unwritten page,
(Life like silk, ever unwrinkled) fibrous and resilient,
Savoring the world with a strikingly blank,
Two-dimensional palette:

I am a pocketful of nothing,
I have a mouth full of water,
And no need to breathe;
Living peaceably with the world
Just dead, stroking back into it
With loving candor its faint final flush.
