Deep Breath

And I have felt
A presence that disturbs me with the joy
Of elevated thoughts; a sense sublime
Of something far more deeply interfused,
Whose dwelling is the light of setting suns,
And the round ocean and the living air,
And the blue sky, and in the mind of man...

From William Wordsworth's "Tintern Abbey".

Offerings at the Temple Gates

Let's celebrate now all this flesh on our bones
collapse module

I see who you are

I see who you are
Behind the skin
And the muscles

I see who you are, now
And when you get older later

I will see the same girl
The same soul
Lioness, fireheart
Passionate lover

And afterwards
Later this century
When you and I have become corpses

Let's celebrate now all this flesh on our bones
Let me push you up against me tightly
And enjoy every bit of you

I see who you are

-Lyrics by Bjork from album "Volta"

Spanish Dancer

As on all its sides a kitchen-match darts white
flickering tongues before it bursts into flame:
with the audience around her, quickened, hot,
her dance begins to flicker in the dark room.

And all at once it is completely fire.

One upward glance and she ignites her hair
and, whirling faster and faster, fans her dress
into passionate flames, till it becomes a furnace
from which, like startled rattlesnakes, the long
naked arms uncoil, aroused and clicking.

And then: as if the fire were too tight
around her body, she takes and flings it out
haughtily, with an imperious gesture,
and watches: it lies raging on the floor,
still blazing up, and the flames refuse to die -
Till, moving with total confidence and a sweet
exultant smile, she looks up finally
and stamps it out with powerful small feet.

-- Rainer Maria Rilke

Behold

collapse module

i can not kiss your lips with this mask between us
i can not write words to remove your name
like lines of poetry in the hands of water,

come burn with me in this pyre of desire,
let nothing stand between us, not even these eyes.

come through this opening in the sky.

about me
Art feeds me, saves me, gives me reason for walking in this world with wide open, curious eyes, for diving deep within.

Currently my modes of artistic expression include watercolor and acrylic painting, collage, tribal-style belly dance, free-form dance (alone or with others), costuming, storytelling, writing and photography, especially self-portraiture which has become another form of journaling for me during a particularly transformative year…

MUSEings

Painted last night which felt really good. Bright red flowery figure full of layers of deep pinks and dark purples. Surrounded by a nest of deep dark green, peeling open into lighter tones. Felt good to let go of the mind, to let go of the inner critic and just let my inner desire to put gooey paint on the brush and move about the paper happen. When that happens, I feel completely alive and in love with the creative process. In that moment I am the creative process, no space, no separateness.... read more

Just felt like posting something new...
I was sick of the wig photo being at the top of my blog.
Procrastination? maybe...
Definitely.
I am really good at it...
Sometimes not so good at research.
Always good at procrastination.
I am setting the intention now that next quarter I will not put huge research papers off till the last minute!
You all are my witnesses!
Just these last few letters and then I am back to the research.
Honest.
Now.
I'm.
Going.

Adding a pretty picture.

...in 31 minutes.
Life gets better everyday.
What a ride!

My Mom took me out to dinner tonight to celebrate, and when we got home I made her dress up with me in Burning Man accessories (such as I am wearing in this photo.) I said, "31 years ago you gave birth to me, and now I am making you wear a Rainbow wig!" We laughed a lot.

I am so thankful to be alive, and for all I have been given.
So thankful for having such great community streching out in all directions.

Woohoo!!!
