playa bound

Will be camping with BRC Poutine near 7:15 and B or C, with a big mural-banner that says "come unite, come ignite" with flames and silhouettes

I'm driving down with a good friend, and excited about taking the time to leave the business behind. I'm ready for a break, and I'm doing lots and lots this week to make sure I'm back on my feet when I get back.

Today is planning day, more positivity and more creativity. And the last day I work until September :)

really riddiculous dream

that must mean something...

I woke up this morning, picking glass shards out of my tongue

imaginary ones

I was at a party, dark and bad energy, and I was eating little blue-glass cylinders. crunch crunch chrunch...but I wasn't swallowing them, but they were going away. I ate something else to get them out of my mouth, didn't really work, so I just kept eating them. The longer shards stuck into my tongue and hurt, but hurt more to take out. Then I woke up

Curvy women are smarter!

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7090300.stm

"
Curvy women may be a clever bet

Women with curvy figures are likely to be brighter than waif-like counterparts and may well produce more intelligent offspring, a US study suggests.

Researchers studied 16,000 women and girls and found the more voluptuous performed better on cognitive tests - as did their children.

The bigger the difference between a woman's waist and hips the better.

Researchers writing in Evolution and Human Behaviour speculated this was to do with fatty acids found on the hips.

In this area, the fat is likely to be the much touted Omega-3, which could improve the woman's own mental abilities as well as those of her child during pregnancy.

Men respond to the double enticement of both an intelligent partner and an intelligent child, the researchers at the Universities of Pittsburgh and California said.

The findings appear to be borne out in the educational attainments of at least one of the UK's most famous curvaceous women, Nigella Lawson, who graduated from Oxford.

But experts are not convinced by the findings.

"On the fatty deposits being related to intelligence front, it's very hard to detangle that from other factors, such as social class, for instance, or diet," said Martin Tovee of Newcastle University.

"And much as we logically like the idea that men are interested in the waist to hip ratio, it actually features relatively low down the list of feature males look for in a potential partner."

Bike for Sale

Please pass on to any tall friends who like to bike. Before I post to craigslist, I want to try to get my bike a good home : /

Selling a 2004 Marin Fairfax, a 'city hybrid', 'aggressive commuter' or 'straight-bar road' bike
Asking price: $500 OBO

I love it, but it's too big for me, and after riding it for years I'm having knee problems and may not be able to get back on it.
I bought it new in 2005, and have commuted spring, summer and fall for two years. It has never slept a day outside, and has rarely been left in the rain. It has some wear, of course, but is in good condition. For it's size it's very light and looks slick, the frame is made of silver hexagonal aluminum tubing.

It's a 20.5", but Marin measures differently, it's the same size at the 23" Miele I had previously. (It's big, I like it, shut up.)

Photo attached is not my bike, or even the right size, but a promo photo
Here are the specs:

Let me know and then come by for a ride!

slowed down

so I partially tore a few ligaments in my knee...dancing...at a wedding...while visiting my parents :/

That was a few days before floydfest, really wonderful 4 day folk/bluegrass festival that I went to the last day of, the picture here (stolen from flickr ahahaha) is one of the 5 or 6 stages in the middle of the mountains. Really great vibe, great food and people, hoops everywhere...it would be great to go and do the whole thing.

My knee exploded a week and two days ago, and over that time, I've been smothered, determined, crazy, worn out, frustrated, scared, freaked out, and then calm. In that order. I'm much better about it now, it's forcing me to take time to do things, I can't just grab a bite to eat and run, I have to plan, and sit-- I can either use my hands OR stand up. Tricky stuff, but I'm getting it.

And I've done some good work on my thesis (after several breakdowns) and tonight...putting together photos from the last 4 years. Whoa.

You should come visit me at my apartment. Then we can sing "tie a yellow ribbon 'round th ole broke knee!" together :)

'just like the chinese'

is what I've been saying for the last few months, punching a fist straight out. I saw a documentary where a chinese company dismantled a giant coking (hehe...coal product used in steal manufacturing) plant, kilometers long to rebuild it and replicate it in china. They did this in a year, with a few hundred people working sun up to sun down with out safety harnesses or permits. The plant was in germany, and it was most interesting to see the difference in work practices/ethics/hours between effiecient germans and just-get-it-done chinese. The (three) germans would stand by and say 'you should really use another tool, it will work better ' and the chinese would ignore it, because the one they had was working, by the time they went and got the other, the job would already be done.

After that, I had a revelation...that I spend so much of my time deciding whether or not to do something, or how to do a silly little detail (that doesn't need to be considered until the moment it happens) that I have no time/energy to actually enjoy/finish what I plan. A sort of 'measure 30 times, cut next week' approach. I have so many projects planning out in my head at one time, that I can't get to sleep, much less finish any one.

So my new technique has been ...just get it done. Just buy the dvd instead of debating for days whether or not to. Just book the doctor's appointment now, sort out work later.

And in the last weeks it's helped and it's backfired. Glasses that were lost, and replaced with a big chunk of time and worry, were found. Festival ticket bought for a friend is not needed. But I've also got a lot done, and am getting better about not worrying, and I'll have cute new glasses after I get back from an amazing bluegrass festival.

And I got an IUD. You should look into it.

And my airport-curse has ended! woo! There's a woman named Sonya Bells who will soon be selling herself as a good luck charm, I reccomend her.

And I didn't overplan and stress myself out for the trip to my parents, happening right now... I miss my bike

Already delayed :)

I think the airlines (or maybe booking agents) should send out a bulletin to everyone on *my* flight. This one is delayed by two hours, since at least six hours before. I've been thru delay nearly every flight I've been on that it's not phasing me, I am appreciating the chance to prepare my taxes (no joke!).

So! If you know someone in Munich, Istanbul, or Berlin that's hip, give me a shout and I'll hang/make out with them :)
