“The more technological our societies, the more our walls ooze ghosts.”
--Italo Calvino

"The room, you see, is a dangerous place. Not in itself, but because you're dangerous. The psyche is dangerous. Because working with words is not like working with color or sound or stone or movement. Color and sound and stone and movement are all around us, they are natural elements, they've always been in the universe, and those who work with them are servants of these timeless materials. But words are pure creations of the human psyche. Every single word is full of secrets, full of associations, every word leads to another and another and another, down and down, through passages of dark and light. Every single word leads, in this way, to the same destination: your soul. Which is, in part, the soul of everyone. Every word has the capacity to start that journey. And once you're on it, there is no knowing what will happen."
--Michael Ventura, The Talent of the Room

"A ratio of failures is built into the process of writing. The wastebasket has evolved for a reason. Think of it as the altar of the Muse Oblivion, to whom you sacrifice your botched first drafts, the tokens of your human imperfection. She is the tenth Muse, the one without whom none of the others can function. The gift she offers you is the freedom of the second chance. Or as many chances as you’ll take."
--Margaret Atwood

Please indicate how frequently each of the following reasons led you to have sex in the past. I want my money back! This production was terrible. I wished I could say something worked, but alas, not. Vocals, acting, dancing, recorded music...bad, bad, bad. You will simply lose two hours of your life at this event at Hugo House (and the Little Red Studio.) Abd you'll be stuck there, without an intermission.

We had an amazing time in Vancouver, for the college graduation of our eldest, Joshua, from the sound design program at Vancouver Film School. No caps & gowns or lame recital of the names for these dudes. It was a rousing presentation of their short films, many animated and some of the liveliest sound I've heard in a long time. The afternoon at the International Film Center was followed by a slide show of photos of the kids throughout the year, playing at foley, recording musicians, fallin... read more
