I'm a massive nerd, and have recently gotten involved in the firespinning community in Boston. I'm still primarily a nerd, though. I'm also a bleeding liberal, and greatly enjoy subverting gender roles. 'Cause really, they're pretty bullshit. To earn the bucks, I teach Latin at a really snooty conservative private school. I'd like to say that it merely pays the bills, but really, as an Eagle Scout, I'm used to much more repressive organizations than this. The kids are fantastic, as kids always are (I love kids, by the way), even if the administration has the usual amount of bullshit. Also, they have mad awesome bennies. I only had a $20 co-pay on my vasectomy! (I hate small children, by the way). I'm also a pretty serious atheist (who can laugh long and hard about it), who doesn't want children ever and has no religious compulsion to get married, although I do happen to personally be a hardcore monogamist (tunnel vision!) who does want to end up in a long-term committed relationship. So, in short... I have a bizarre mix of felt and acted liberalism, externally imposed conservatism, an open mind, and a focused attention.

Yes, Lucy and I are now officially single. We jointly decided to make sure it was a post on Facebook, so that people would know and we wouldn't have to explain it over and over. I figured this was also an appropriate forum, since things can get lost on Facebook really easily. Public hashing out isn't something I'd like to do, but private messages of love are always appreciated. We're still going to be really close, wonderful friends, and I wouldn't regret a moment.

I've decided that I really want two tattoos suddenly. I've kinda been interested in getting a tattoo for a while, and every time I've thought of it, I've always thought of it in pairs. I would want one on the left, one on the right. Not exactly sure the placement yet. Very tempting to do one down each forearm. On the inside. I'm worried about visibility though. So last night I spun at the Somerville yearly Luau on Paulina St. I was invited to spin, and said, "yeah, sure," and showed up. It was a generally fun time, with a great crowd, some great enthusiasm, and some great comments and compliments afterward. The most surprising thing, though, was that I got paid afterward.
