My friends rock

So, last Friday was my birthday. I had asked my parents for a Texas Chainsaw Massacre birthday cake. They looked at me like I was nuts. I don't get it, who doesn't want a TCM cake?? Anyhoo, leave it to my friends, Sarah and Glenna, to come to my rescue.

The cake was magnificent. Red velvet over a rice krispie treat bone and foot. Topped with flesh colored sugar stuff for skin. Rasberry jam made very nice coagulated blood. It was beautiful, almost too beautiful to eat. But we did eat it, and it was yummy. We ate it on Harry Potter plates. The best birthday cake evar!

I cut off Helga's toes and brought them for lunch. Muwhahaha.

You are in Purgatory!

But don't worry, you'll love it. I had sooooo much fun Saturday night. Purgatory, in case ya don't know, is a fetish show or club that is put on once every couple of months or so by Single Cell. And let me just say, it is the most fun. I had a fabulous time and I will definitely be there next time. So much stuff to watch or do. Plus I got to dance and dance and dance some more. I love to dance. I actually felt in my element, with music I love and people I like to be around. It has been a long time since I've had the opportunity to go someplace like this and I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the atmosphere and the people. Yes, yes, I know I'm not a people person and usually don't like them, except a few here and there. But these people are my kinda people. No judging, no pointing and laughing, just good times all around. Everyone able to do their own thing without anyone calling them names or trying to be a hatah. A special thanks to the Sarah for getting our VIP tickets. I will definitely make this a habit.

Watch out for those Nargles!!

So, finally after eons of waiting, I get to see Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix. It was superb. I'm not sure if part of it was actually getting to see it on the big screen (I haven't been in a movie theatre since LotR Return of the King, yes, it's been that long.) or if it really was that this is the best one yet.

There is quite a bit of stuff different from the book, and while some of it could be complained about, it worked really well on the screen. Of course things had to be cut out for time considerations, and I guess a lot of stuff just doesn't translate as well from page to celluloid. I was very impressed with the movie as a whole. I know the comparison between book and movie is really non-existant. I mean, obviously the book is fantastic and as is with all book to movie productions, the book is better and there is something lost in the conversion.

However, I look at these movies as their own entity. Standing on it's own, it's spectacular. The special effects were great, the story line moved along at a nice pace, giving the viewer all the information needed without dragging it out. The creatures were amazing. Ok, so I want a thestral, the movie version was somewhat similar to what I pictured them looking like. So creepy and cool.

I would have to say besides loving the Weasleys, my favorite character is Luna Lovegood. I loved her in the book and also in the movie. The girl who played her did a wonderful job. I really hope there is more Luna in the Deathly Hallows, as she is barely in the Half-Blood Prince at all. And her Patronus is the cutest little bunny. Aw.

Professor Umbridge is just as nasty in the movie as she is in the book. How can you not want to squash her froggy little head. Evil, that woman is, but she gets her just deserts in the end. Haha.

Anyway, I could go on all day about the movie, but that would be a little obsessive and I'm already teetering on the verge. Besides, it'll be out on dvd in a few months. So, now I must prepare myself for #7 to arrive on Saturday. Well, I'll be at the beach. But you can bet I'll be cracking that sucker open on Sun.evening. Everybody leave me alone.

Yay for the Ava Fleming workshop

So our much anticipated journey to Charleston has come and gone. I must say, I had a fabulous time. It was nice for us all to go to a workshop together and especially with those who have moved, gotten married or aren't able to come dance with us as much anymore. Kinda like a family reunion, only with family you actually like.
Me and Shorty got a late start Friday night and had to drive through torrents of rain. But we finally made it to Charleston about 11pm. After a trip to the hot tub and a warm welcome from the Glenna and Jenny, we were able to settle down in our sleep number beds. Yes, I said sleep number beds, and let me tell you, it was like sinking into a cocoon of comfort. I slept like a baby until I was awakened by Shorty's phone alarm at 4am. But it was the Cure, so that was nice and I fell immediately back asleep.
Morning came and we had to wake Glenna and Jenny up, because Glenna (in her infinite wisdom- haha, I have to give you shit about this :-D) decided to set the alarm clock instead of relying on wake up calls and of course, the alarm clock never went off. So finally we are all ready and can have some breakfast and head to the workshop.

The workshop was incredible. Ava Fleming can do things with her ribcage that I never thought possible. She is amazing and even though I'm not a cabaret girl, I learned so much from her classes. She is a great instructor and a very nice lady. Not to mention a beautiful dancer. I can easily see why she was Bellydancer of the Universe 2004. So, she tortured us for about 5 hours or so while teaching us the Warda camel, the trigany travel and various other combos. She also taught about motivators and deconstructing combos to make them your very own. Then she finished up with an excrutiating round of push-ups, squats and other butt work. Ahhhh, sweet suffering.

Then it was off to get ready for the show. The moment of truth, when we finally show everybody the money. We were glorious in our "shut up and spank me" red outfits. We were effing awesome. Everyone loved our number and I think everyone did a great job. Aside from a few cases of the nerves, I know I felt crazy there for a few minutes, it all went well. It was over so fast, this craziness that we spent months preparing for. I didn't want it to end, I wanted to stay out there longer and bask in the attention of the crowd. I really think we blew them away. I want more, more. I love to perform and be out there dancing with people applauding and adoring me. haha. Because as we all know, it is all about me. heehee. Oh how I love me. More pictures of me, please. Glenna knows this all to well, there are not near enough pictures of us out there.

Yay for Rob Zombie

When I first heard that someone was doing a remake of Halloween, I thought to myself "blasphemy!" Halloween is a classic, it is what I judge all other horror movies by. I don't think there can ever be a movie that scared or will ever scare me as bad as Halloween did and sometimes still does. Try watching it alone in the dark with the kind of imagination I have and pretty soon you'll be hiding in the closet with the coat hangers.

Halloween was the first horror movie I ever saw. I think I was about 7 at the time. This was back in the days when my brother would wake me up in the middle of the night and pump me full of cokes and cookies so I would stay awake with him. I guess he didn't want to watch scary movies by himself, and of course I was nominated to accompany him on these forays into terror. So, this is how I was exposed to the macabre. Wired on caffiene and slightly crazed from lack of sleep.

We would watch these movies late at night: Halloween, Friday the 13th, Amityville Horror (I had to put my rocking chair in the closet, cause I swear it would move at night) and many others, sitting in the dark, jumping at every creak or thump. Then my brother would chase me around the house with a butcher knife humming the theme song to Halloween. No shit, I spent many hours hiding under the bed. And people wonder why I am so morbidly strange now. I am a product of my environment and I wouldn't have it any other way. :-D
Plus the fact that Michael and I share the same last name. In my 7 yr old mind that was the clincher. Maybe we were related? Of course I realize now, that he is a fictional character, I'm not completely insane. Really, I'm not. But for a 7 yr old, having the same name as a pyschopathic killer was really bizarre.

So, of course when I heard about the remake, I was rather pissed. How dare someone take my favorite horror movie, one of the major stepping stones of my life and try to redo it! Then, I found out it was a Rob Zombie film. Relief washed over me and I could breath again. I think in the hands of Rob, Halloween will be given a new life. If anyone can do it justice it would be him. So, now I'm looking forward to seeing it on the big screen. A second chance for die-hard fans who were too young the first time around to see Mikey the way he should be 10ft tall and bullet proof. Don't forget Aug. 31. Some of you betches will be going with me, so prepare yourselves!!

Bang up performance

I am so proud of all of the troupe. Saturday's performance was, to use the words of several of the audience members "absolutely fabulous", "beautiful", and "smashing". It feels good when people love what you do. Despite the heat and feeling like we were dancing in a sauna, we all did a lovely job. It was immensely (sp?) fun too.

I was so proud of Glenna in her first solo ever and on top of that she had to do the first solo, which can be a little intimidating sometimes. But she did a fabulous job and everybody loved it! I can't wait to see what she'll do next. Now to get Shorty to do a solo. Our M'toto piece was awesome and I think people really liked it. Hopefully we can do this one at Spirit next year. Spread the peacock love.

I feel like I really nailed my solo. I was in a groove or something, but that's the first time I've felt totally comfortable, like I was right at home on stage. It was the best feeling ever. I'm not sure if words can even describe how good it felt. But I know I've made some kind of transition. I was still a little nervous, but the good kind. I felt like I was born to be right there, like that is what I have been waiting for all my life. I know now that after this all my performances will be different, more confident. I wish I could explain it better, but I just don't know how to put into words the joy I felt and still feel.

The other numbers were grand. We did several new pieces. I think everyone really loved the Bhangra piece and of course the fire, oh the fire. It was beautiful, although me and Glenna's transfers didn't work, we were either too sweaty or the fluid had evaporated before we could torch ourselves. But nonetheless, it was awesome! We also brought Dance of Doom out of the vault, as it's always a crowd pleaser.

I hate I didn't get to see but just a smidgen of Tammie's solo and I missed all of Sam's, but it was recorded so, I'll see them eventually. Once again, I'm so happy about the way it turned out, despite the issues with the veil number, but shit happens. I must also give props to Jenny, who came to part of the workshop, did her recital in Charlotte and then drove up to join in some of our dances. Poor girl must have been exhausted.

Well, I can't wait to get started working on the next show, and of course we have Charleston in 2 weeks!!

One more day.....

til the show and workshop. goody! I love performances. They are so fun. I really hope my solo blows people away. Of course the M'toto piece will. How could it not what with all the peacockaliciousness. The whole show is going to be good.

Now I must finish up all my little last minute things like making sure my tops are secure. Don't want them falling off, nobody wants to see that. I guess I should repolish my fingernails since there only about 3 that actually still have polish on them. Damn I need more purple ribbon, too. My head's going to explode trying to remember all this crap.
