Where to go from here????
Pink!
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 6:41 PMEach year, the Walk to End Breast Cancer occurs. Last year, I had the privilege of dancing with a lovely group of ladies in support of those who are walking. Hordes of people, the majority wearing pink… which I was very conspicuously not.
Suddenly a need existed for a pink costume. But not any pink costume would do. A pink on pink with crystals and pearls and silver. In other words, the costume my 3 and 5 year old granddaughters are thrilled to “help” me work on. I am going to be a beautiful princess dancer, they assure me. (Obviously, my pink costume will have magical powers!).
I’ve begun the process. The belt has been cut, covered and sewn and is now in the embellishment process. After close to a month, I’m only about half way through the appliqués and sequins, with the seed bead fringe yet to come. I’m hoping to complete the belt before May 15th, but that may be a very unrealistic deadline.
The other pieces of the costume have not been forgotten. I spent time last night cutting this wonderfully light and flowing fabric into a 6 gore skirt. With a more fitted hipline, the full 2 circle hem should really provide a lot of flair and swirl. (The fabric is pink of course.) It’s on my to-do list for the weekend. Once it’s sewn, I can hang it for a month to let the bias drape, and still have time to hem it before the Walk.
The bra cups come to and fro to work each day with me. At lunch, I sit outside at one of the picnic tables, pop my earbuds in and work on getting the cup form exactly right. With any luck, I’ll have them ready to attach to the band by Thursday. Or so I can hope!
When it’s all together, it will be a beautiful costume. And the utter PINKNESS of it is starting to grow on me.

<<My foray into *pink* came many years ago at one of those GlamourShot photo places. The ladies there put me in hot pink - and darn, it looked good!>> |
