Ok it's true~~~

Snakes are like potato chips~~~you can't have just one! We've been thinking about it for some time now, and we've finally acquired a second snake. This time we got a baby, so it will be awhile for she's ready to dance! Like our male Hadji, she is a Ball Python, her name is Salome.

More pics as soon as she's more comfortable with being handled and all the attention. She had just been fed when we brought her home.

Joe got me the greatest (early) Birthday present a five-year old Ball Python. I've never had a snake before but as you can see we have bonded already.

He came with the name Diesel, and I was hoping to change it but I can't come up with any good ideas. ...

We had such a blast doing a Middle Eastern Drum and Dance Demo in the Medieval village at the Howell Balloon Festival.

We were invited to dance in a Medieval Wedding Procession and spent the day dancing and drumming for and with the people who were attending the festival.

I had several memorable moments. A gentleman approached me and said thank you for the beautiful dancing and music. He said we danced to the music he listens to at home, it was a very happy song and it made him happy to see us dance. We also had much applause and zaghareets from the audience which really encouraged us to continue dancing despite the heat.

The best memory I have is of a very young girl probably around six. Her mother came to me and told me that she wanted to dance with me but was too shy to ask. She wasn't shy about dancing! We stood facing each other and I did simple hip movements, not realizing I was instinctively moving my arms with the movements. She mirrored every thing I did including the arm movements. She continued to do this through the entire eight minute piece. There was a special energy between the two of us and I really enjoyed sharing those moments with her. I only wished I would have gotten pictures and her name. I bet she'll be a great dancer one day……

Special thanks to Kellie, Valerie, Alison and the kids for helping to make it such a special day. Also to "my drumming husband Joseff from Tennessee" (personal joke)

I am fairly new at ME dance so I have not done any performances (except privately for my husband). I also have not had the opportunity to attend Pennsic.
I have been to a few hafla's, one experience I don't think I will ever duplicate.

This was an SCA event in Michigan called Tyger Hunt. There were ME dance classes all day long. also drumming classes. We had a great time sharing ideas and also had a "henna party". The event was held in a park with lots of trees it was a beautiful site. In the evening when it got dark they held a hafla around a fire. There were many musicians and dancers. The night was warm, with very little wind and a huge full moon. That night dancing around the fire under the full moon was such a memorable experience it is hard to put the feelings into words.

I recently completed a creative writing class which required us to write poems. This is one of the poems that I wrote for the class. I tried to relate the beauty of tribal dancers to creation through nature. Most of the students thought that I was writing about Native Americans but they still liked it. I hope you do too.....

Tribal Dance

Dancers move in unison
a flock of birds in flight.
Each instinctively knowing
where the others will fly next.

Bodies rolling, with arms flowing
gentle waves lapping in rhythm
to and fro, back and forth
gently against the shore.

Staccato hips, accent sounding drums
hail falling Tak Tak a Tak
beating in tempo
firmly to the ground.
