About MeFor most of my life I had been uncomfortable with the world. I spent a lot of time in spiritul pursuit. I was interested in Earth First! and read the EF! Journal.In Sept. 1998, while in San Francisco, I heard about an EF! action camp happening in Humboldt. I went to it and was arrested in an action. The following day Gypsy was killed at the same place. Ihave been involved in direct action campaigns ever since. In early 1999 I overcame my fear of heights to sit in Aradia, a 600 year old redwood on Gypsy Mountain. In Nov. 1999 I went to Seattle to protest against the WTO, and was tear-gassed and pepper-sprayed. In Humboldt, I have worked on the Gypsy Mountain, Mattole, Hole-in-Headwaters, and Freshwater campaigns.I have also been to Oregon to protest logging in our national forests.

Strawberry Festival

Yesterday, there was a strawberry festival at the Salmon House in Arcata. Everyone seemed to have a great time. There was music, good food, drumming, and of course plenty of fresh strawberries grown on the Salmon House Farm.

Forest defenders met today and changed the dates for the camp. The camp will now be starting on May 9 and is scheduled to end May 14. The camp will be in a grove of ancient redwoods, the exact location will be announced about a week before the start of camp. Hopefully, there will be car pools from Arcata.

Humboldt Forest Defenders have announced that there will be a forest defense skillshare and camp in the redwoods. They are inviting old-timers and newcomers alike and plan to release more details soon. My understanding is that the camp will run from May 2 through May 9 and include hikes and discussions about Pacific Lumber's bankruptcy.

Yesterday, there was a strawberry festival at the Salmon House in Arcata. Everyone seemed to have a great time. There was music, good food, drumming, and of course plenty of fresh strawberries grown on the Salmon House Farm.

I spent last week at the Mattole Wildlands Defense Skillshare at the Mattole Beach. I thought it went quite well. The most surprising thing was that there was not a drop of rain for all seven days. One of the most popular wokshops was the Coyuntura, which is Spanish for conjunction. It taught us a new way of analysis and finding solutions to problems. Other worshops were: pocket pouch survival kit, plant identification, foraging, yoga, and history of Mattole forest defense.
