Spirit Mountain if you ever get a chance is beautiful in the way it almost falls into the river, but its very remote about 20 miles south of Chitna. I love the water and being on it, but its been a while since i done any canoing or kayaking. Most memorable trip was canoeing up to Vancouver Island from Seattle. indoorsy city stuff: i love coffee houses, funky bars and diners, lots of choices in what to eat, independant and limited run movies (you can watch them on the big screen who knew!!), arboreatums and botanical gardens, lots of bookstores (both new and used), baseball stadiums, husky football.... tv rodeo (yes really, I grew up watching it with my dad, both live and tv), lacrosse, hocky, skiing, battlestar galactica, scrubs, heroes, whatever else is on.... Music U2, Killers, Butt Rock (I hate that phrase but you know what I mean), R&B, Hip Hop, Jazz, even some opera, and Native groups whether Nativeflowz (DJ), Indigenous (Blues), Culture Shock Camp. I love meeting creative Natives and the art and ideas they produce. I really love my culture and I love it even more living in the city. Before, I took it for granted but I love who we are and where we've come from. Our ancestors struggled to survive so that I may know my lineage and my bloodline and that is precious to me. I meet people who don't know where they came from but that they have some blood, maybe my tribe, but don't know who they are any more. To me being Native is a blessing, even though its really hard at times to come from so much suffering and seeing so much go on today, but this land flows through me (from my wide feet to my predisposition to diabetes-I jokes). And from that blessing comes obligation to keep the flame alive for the coming generations and to work against the injustice that my parents and ancestors, and even I faced. I want never want a Native kid to be ashamed of who they are again. To see their culture and past only portrayed as barbaric, ignorant, or over. hmmm, im a n8iv currently living in Seattle. Miles away from home where ever that may be. My home rez is in the midwest and my home village is on the Bering Sea. I'm kinda equidistant from the two. Was a BIA/Army Brat growing up. My bro and sis were Army/College/BIA/Army kids. I only got in at the end. So when peeps ask where I'm from I generally say I was born in Alaska and then South Dakota. That and western New York were the constant places we returned to in my life when we moved around alot. But, I've done two continents now (Norte Americano, Europa) and looking to add two more (Africa & Asia). Technically I guess Im multi ethnic: Native, Michif/Metis, French, Tejano.....whatever else? i jokes. But I usually say Native and my enrolled tribe...which is? Just ask and I'll tell ya's. Usually people just assign me to whatever ethnic category they feel like...so far: Pacific Islander, Chamorro, Mexican, Tajik, light skinned African American, various Latino, a homeless Native on the street yelled out my tribe out when I passed (for real, just ask my friend elese, which is funny since there are only 2,000+ of us out there, guess its the nose!), Turkish, Arab, Greek, Italian. My sister was in Mongolia and she got Kazakh, and 1/2Kazakh/Mongolian - 1/2 Russian at different times. I love to travel across the state or across the world its all good. A good Saturday afternoon is taking a road trip and getting an amazing piece of pie in a small town diner/restaurant and doing a lite nature walk/hike in between. Then, falling asleep in the car, while a friend drives, on the way home listening to good music
