Open Letter to PM Harper re 9/11 (October 2009)

Dear Prime Minister Harper, I am writing to you on a matter of deep concern, not only to myself but to millions of people throughout the world. By way of introduction, may I simply say that I am a Canadian citizen who was in New York City just days after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. A great public trust was broken in the aftermath of 9/11 when authorities from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a government body whose stated mission is "to protect human health and the environment", gave the go-ahead for people to return to work in the general area of Manhattan surrounding ground zero. The EPA's indication that there was no risk to health was seriously flawed and an army of debilitated people attest to this. Like hundreds of firefighters and countless other citizens, I too breathed the toxic air that hung over Manhattan in the wake of what is undoubtedly one of the most precipitous and far-reaching socio-political events of all time. Since the very day of the disaster, I have sustained an avid quest to understand what happened. This has included countless hours of research on the subject - research that continues to convince me that the official investigation conducted by the US Government is far from complete and is, in fact, largely erroneous. At minimum, there are many, many unanswered questions. I am not alone in my quest for truth. Notable among other truth seekers are hundreds of architects and engineers (Architects and Engineers For 9/11 Truth) who are constantly bringing forth new evidence regarding the actual physics of this grave matter. Countless independent investigators are also piecing together far-flung pieces of the puzzle. These include the victim’s families, many of whom are still grieving the loss of loved ones because of a lack of closure with what actually happened. They seek the truth that will set them free from their grief. A SPECIAL REQUEST On this, the first day of Fire Prevention Week here in British Columbia, I am poignantly aware of the many firefighters who died, directly and indirectly, as a result of the 9/11 tragedy. It is with these many brave souls in mind, that I present you with a special request. My request is that you, personally or by delegation to someone of high political stature, urge President Obama to reopen the official investigation into 9/11. Along with that request, I urge you to include reference to a similar request by actor Charlie Sheen who, on September 11, 2009, presented the world with both an open letter and a video addressed directly to the President. Both messages detail a number of unanswered questions pertinent to the events of September 11, 2001. They present a comprehensive point of departure for any discussion of the matter. The painting process was intense with many changes along the way as we swirled with the energies of CAUAC we invoked on this stage of The Lightning Path. We often felt disoriented in the process but found stability when we pulled the book THE CIVILIZATION OF THE GODDESS by Marija Gumbutas from Terry's library. As soon as we began to encounter Neolithic images of the Goddess, we began time traveling into a primordial realm where all things were elemental and new, and possible, including the creation of new continents of consciousness......... Not long ago, I, like many other people throughout the world, responded to a plea to the world community to bear witness to the political struggle taking place in Oaxaca, Mexico. The plea came from an assembly of Oaxacan citizens who are engaged in a power struggle with government at both the state and federal level. What began as an legal strike by schoolteachers in Oaxaca has escalated to a conflict of national and international significance. November 20, 2006 was both a New Moon and the ninety-sixth anniversary of the Mexican Revolution. The painting you see here was co-created by Teresa Wild and I in honor of the people of Oaxaca who are endeavouring to bring about peaceful social change in the face of militant government oppression.

Give Peace a Chance

Mr.Usherwood (Comox Valley Record, Nov.10) seeks to justify militarism and the use of lethal force in Canada’s mission in Afghanistan by denigrating the value of peaceful, non-violence in the face of oppression. Perhaps if the world community was willing to give peace a chance in the first place, we wouldn’t have to face such extremes as he cites. In the words of contemporary Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hahn whose teachings were formed in the midst of the very real world of the Vietnamese War : “There is no way to peace, peace is the way.” It has often been said that the first casualty of war is truth. I invoke exemplars such as Gandhi, Martin Luther King and Lester B. Pearson because they too lived and died for the values I hold most dear. Truth is one of those values and as far as I can see, we need their example more than ever. When it comes to warfare I look to Chinese sage Sun Tzu whose cryptic writings on the subject of warfare have advised generals throughout the world since before the birth of Christ. His thoughts are many but one I consider most relevant is this: “To win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the supreme excellence.” With regard to contemporary issues, I call attention to the fact that Canadian foreign policy is being formulated within the context of George W. Bush’s “war on terror. Justification for that war in all its various forms is based on the very questionable official government story surrounding 9/11, a story currently under intense worldwide scrutiny in the alternative media and increasingly, in the mainstream media as well. The cause behind the tragedy of 9/11 is one of the most pivotal socio-political issues of our times. Overwhelming evidence points to the fact that not only the Twin Towers but the associated Building 7 as well, were controlled demolitions. Who performed these demolitions and why is the American government trying to cover it up? Why are the CIA, the Pentagon and the Bush administration all withholding evidence that could bring the light of truth to the 9/11 tragedies? Is not memory of the burning of the Reichstag by what, in its earliest days, was a democratically-elected Nazi regime reason enough for us to pause as a populace and ask “Could history be repeating itself? “American foreign policy has an increasingly tyrannical demeanor? I, for one, don’t believe it reflects the values shared by most Canadians. Show me the true face of the Canadian military.

A recent letter I wrote to the editor of the Comox Valley Record, Dear editor, Re: Freedom never free. As much as I agree wholeheartedly with Colonel J.K.Ambler's assertion that "as long as some of us on earth are not free then none of us are free", I find his comments regarding the recent peace demonstration held outside the gates of 19 Wing Comox to be dismissive of the efforts of those who participated. Personally, I thank them for representing my interests as a civilian, knowing that civilians invariably suffer the most casualties in any war. I believe we must honor every sincere attempt by civilians to alert their community to critical issues regarding government activities. Recently, under the Harper administration, Canadian foreign policy has become increasingly aligned with American foreign policy under the administration of George W.Bush. This is the same foreign policy that has given rise to hostilities that have recently been shown by the prestigious Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health to have caused the death of not thousands, but hundreds of thousands, of Iraqi civilians. This fact alone should alarm all Canadians but there is much, much more to be concerned about. As painful as it is to entertain the possibility that 9/11 was an "inside job", a rising tide of concrete evidence (currently pervading the alternative media) points to this possibility. Evidence indicates that the destruction of the Twin Towers and nearby Building 7 were controlled demolitions precisely timed to coincide with the simultaneous destruction of what are said by authorities to have been terrorist-controlled aircraft. Equally startling is the fact that the official government explanation regarding the attempted destruction of the Pentagon on the same day lacks any conclusive supportive evidence and remains to this day shrouded in controversy. Equally disturbing is the fact that the Bush administration has used to full advantage the widespread fear generated by 9/11 to advance their own political agenda. This is much the same as President Johnson and his administration covertly orchestrating the Gulf of Tonkin incident to rally public support in favor of going to a war with North Viet Nam that led to over 50,000 American deaths and millions of Vietnamese casualties. The Tonkin incident, now openly admitted to by the Pentagon, is only one of a multitude of covert operations orchestrated by elected American officials to pull the wool over the eyes, not only of the American people but of the eyes of the rest of the world as well. Under the pretext of national security, the Bush Administration has successfully gutted the American Constitution of many of its most essential elements of democratic process including such a long-standing provision as the "Great Writ" of habeas corpus that has its origins in the Magna Carta of 1215. As a Canadian citizen, I demand that our troops be withdrawn from the struggle in Afghanistan and that any future deployment of troops anywhere on the planet be based on the kind of peacekeeping role pioneered by Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson. Rather than support an imperialist agenda hell bent on global domination, let us look for guidance in the examples of peaceful, historical exemplars like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. who, like many of our soldiers, made the ultimate sacrifice in the name of liberty and freedom for all.

Revolt is a corruption of Revolute To revolute is first of all to return to the center of the will, to the center of the life-force, which is essential being--simply being. It is to become simple again, unburdened by the weight of the previous manifestation of the will. Thus Revolution is Life Renewed. To reach the New, leave the Old. The most crux-ial process in Re-volution is cruxifixion. The true Revolutionary is one who is able to cruxify himself by stripping his being of all the old processes, imprints and antagonisms in order to reach the center of being and thus be able to be reborn and begin anew. The most thorough revolutionary is by nature an alchemist. The true Revolutionary is a Seed of the New. In being a Seed, he fulfills the purpose of Organic Revolution. New Moon found Teresa and I once again painting together. This time we chose to venture out of doors with paints and brushes in hand, looking for adventure. We ended up at Miracle Beach north of Courtenay here on Vancouver Island where we enjoyed a spectacular day, painting nine small rocks and enjoying the magnificent setting we found ourselves in.

INVENTING TRADITION

The Lightning Path has its philosophical roots in a contemporary consciousness movement intended to expand human awareness through a return to sacred order. How one makes such a journey is entirely up to each individual. For my own part, committed one-to-one relationships have played a big part in this and my relationship with Teresa Wild has been especially fruitful in this regard. Almost two years ago, Teresa and I made the following public commitment: “To enter into spontaneous ritual at each New Moon over a period of 20 Moons. Our intention is to open to and explore in depth, the 20 Mayan hieroglyphs at the core of The Lightning Path. During each New Moon ritual, we plan to meditatively "channel" images and translate them into a series of paintings done jointly.” It is my great honor and pleasure to have completely fulfilled that commitment with her in such a passionate and creative way, documentation of which is found both here and on our Lightning Path website (www.lightning path.net). With every New Moon, a whole new world of possibility opens up and for the moment, it feels appropriate for Teresa and I to carry on our New Moon rituals independently, each of us exploring new and different media to express the spirit of The Lightning Path. This is in keeping with the overall collaborative spirit that has united us with several other artists including Lightning Path tribe members Sunomi and Leia. We are especially excited to know that visionary artists Alex and Allyson Grey are also ritually collaborating with other artists at the time of the New Moon. May we all continue to thrive in the fullest expression of our deepest artistic callings! The following section titled INVENTING TRADITION includes the full text of the commitment Teresa and I made to each other. I share it with you here because it says a lot about the task of inventing a tradition of New Moon co-creativity in attunement to The Lightning Path, a task that has really only just begun. Dwayne Edward Rourke September 1, 2006 Lightning Path Moon: EIGHT MEN INVENTING TRADITION We, Dwayne Edward Rourke and Teresa Wild, have embarked on a journey of rediscovery of what we understand to be the "Primordial Tradition". By being open and receptive to the influences of diverse worldviews, we hope to artistically amplify the harmonic resonance of essential commonalities, those things that bring us together as a people, rather than split us apart. We envision a synthesis that will unite us all. Humans have been inventing tradition since the beginning of time. Behaviors that assisted in our survival in the natural world were tried and tested, passed down if successful, and often elaborately ritualized. Beliefs and customs developed into cultural elements, were elaborated on through repetition, and became definitions of how to be human. When groups of people became insular, often these beliefs and customs resisted change and became imbedded in the collective unconscious as myth. Traditions became established as cultural imperatives and were handed down through generations. Inventing tradition fell into the hands of certain inspired individuals who had the power and charisma to convince the general populations that the time had come to change. In these modern days, many traditions are being changed or left behind as we find ourselves influenced by other cultures. Since travel has become widely available to more and more people, a global culture has begun to emerge. Many of us have found ourselves in a place where, when we stop and reflect on it, we really have very little culture left that we can truly call our own. If we want to have something meaningful to pass down to our descendants, we must regain the original inspiration that humans were moved by. If we are to attain a harmonious global community we must first respect and encourage individual cultural expression and second, we need to help each other return to the common primordial roots of consciousness. We see huge benefit in returning to the roots of human spirituality by honoring the most basic cycles of the Sun, Moon and Earth. This will naturally lead us to a sense of wholeness and belonging to the family of beings with whom we share this planet. We undertake this journey of spiritual awakening in the hope that it will be a healing for all concerned. As multi-media artists we are currently exploring several elements of an emerging synthesis we call The Lightning Path. With its roots in an ancient Mesoamerican calendar tradition, The Lightning Path reveals twenty temples of the cosmic imagination, highly integrative maps of consciousness applicable on many levels at once. Each map unites hieroglyphs and numbers into a seven-leveled pyramid of time. This pyramid of time is common to all twenty temples on The Lightning Path and is directly aligned to the universal human light body known as the chakra system. In conscious alignment to The Lightning Path, our commitment is to enter into spontaneous ritual at each New Moon over a period of 20 Moons. Our intention is to open to and explore in depth, the 20 Mayan hieroglyphs at the core of The Lightning Path. During each New Moon ritual, we plan to meditatively "channel" images and translate them into a series of paintings done jointly. SEVEN IX

SEVEN IX Once again, Terry and I have been able to continue our co-creative painting quest and I am pleased to post our latest work. Guided by the fact of this being the 7th Moon of the Temple of the Heart, we ritually prepared ourselves for an encounter with the central hieroglyph of this temple: IX ("eesh). IX is shaman, jaguar, priest, magician, messenger, integrity, meditation, night seer, torch bearer and it is heart knowing. In meditation, Terry received a strong vision of 7 faces emanating out from a circle of 7 stars. When she shared that vision with me, I immediately saw the 7 Moon journey that has brought us to this stage of the current lunar year. She concurred and we proceeded to sketch out the basic format for the painting, working quickly and jointly to manifest what you see here. IX represents the insight that comes from deeply exploring one's own unconscious. What is revealed can be both inspiring and terrifying. Either way, if our intention is to encounter the truth of our own being, and if our attitude is one of gratitude for what is revealed, we benefit enormously from the encounter.

Every New Moon for the last twenty Moons, Teresa Wild and I have co-created a painting in conscious attunement to what we call The Lightning Path. Previous documentation of our painting process can be seen at www.lightningpath.net. Unfortunately, Terry was unable to join me this month so what I present to you now is not yet a co-created piece. However, what I have is smaller than the 2 ft x 2 ft canvas we have been using and the vision is that it will be encompassed by a larger "framing" image created by us both at a later date.). On The Lightning Path It is a 6 BEN Moon cycle in the current lunar year and what this means to those of us consciously treading this mythic pathway is that we have reached a stage in the collective journey that calls for activation of both the sixth chakra and of the qualities associated with hieroglyph BEN. There is yoga for each chakra and at the sixth, or brow chakra, we encounter yantra yoga that focuses the mind using mystical diagrams or meditation symbols called yantras. Astrology, with its many circular mandalas, is included in this group as are the many other symbol systems from around the world. The general aim of this yoga is to develop our capacity to understand the world objectively and to envision future possibilities. (In the painting, number six is depicted geometrically in the central white circle.) Hieroglyph BEN (shown in the centre of the painting) refers to the alignment of human creativity with cosmic order (pillars of Heaven and Earth uniting). It also refers to time/space travel, fluid reference points and teaching. I am currently writing a book about The Lightning Path and over the last Moon cycle, I have been researching as well as writing. I recently finished reading a major new book on astrology by Richard Tarnas called Cosmos and Psyche: Intimations of a New World View. Tarnas presents a very in-depth analysis of the archetypal currents running through a vast array of human creativity in the formation of the Western worldview. These currents are seen through the astrological eye of a scholar who initially was very skeptical of astrology but who has since, because of his own direct experience of astrology, become one of its major proponents. Fundamentally, he sees the ancient art and science of astrology as providing a more holistic worldview than will ever be possible from the highly materialistic view currently dominant. Going into the Tarnas book, I had the distinct intuition that it was going to reveal something important and as I reached the final chapters, I became more and more excited when I rewalized that he too has been looking ahead to an upcoming astrological event that promises to have great worldwide importance. I am referring to a point in the currently unfolding cycle linking Saturn and Uranus that will bring these two planets into exact opposition. Tarnas speaks generally about this event but does not make evident the fact that this exact opposition occurs on the very day of the next American federal election, November 4, 2008! Although I have been aware of this fact for quite some time, I was not paying strict attention to (this is where Tarnas has been so helpful) the fact that during this upcoming era, Pluto also plays significantly in the picture widely forming what astrologers call a T square aspect to this opposition. (Pluto itself was previously in exact opposition to Saturn during the world-changing events of September 11, 2001 and it was this configuration that astrologers pegged as the astrological axis of that event.) Why am I telling you all this? Because my New Moon painting is an astrological mandala meant to focus contemplation and dialogue about this upcoming Saturn/Uranus/Pluto event. For any of you who are knowledgeable about astrology and who are able to read what is in this chart, you will want to be aware that the house structure of the mandala derives from my own birth chart as the basic orientation, with the world transits for November 4, 2008 in the outer circle. This, of course, is something I encourage anyone interested in astrology to do for themselves. Doing so puts ones natal birth chart to work as a multi-dimensional map of consciousness, a mandala of personal selfhood that facilitates divination of appropriate and harmonious future action in relationship to world events. I hope to share more about what this astrological mandala reveals as the months ahead bring us closer and closer to what promises to be a very significant convergence of world events. Chakras and The Lightning Path

On The Lightning Path, every New Moon brings us to a new stage on a hieroglyphic journey into expanded awareness. By synchronizing our creativity to this New moon starting point, we benefit from the synergy of many minds and hearts uniting simultanously to co-create beauty. On The Lightning Path we consciously align with the universal human energy system known as the chakras. (For a fabulous presentation of many aspects of the chakra system go to www.myss.com). This alignment is directly related to the 84 year orbit of planet Uranus, the Great Awakener, and to hieroglyphic guidance drawn from the Mayan Sacred Calendar (Tzolkin). Each month, a new chakra and hieroglyph are featured as sources of inspiration for our creativity.
