Stout Doubt

Hope all are enjoying this Feast day as they will. Personally I've been spending the afternoon in relaxed research. Here's a gem that caught my eye in an article by Hymenaeus Beta published in Vol. III No. 4 of The Magical Link Titled On the Gnostic Catholic Church. This quote is from a letter from Crowley to W. B. Crowe dated June 21, 1944ev.

"Tibetan Buddhism. You know, I presume, that the two priests who fist went to Lhasa reported

to Rome that the devil had devised their rituals &c. For they where essentially identical with

the Roman liturgy, the idea being to take the wind out of the Christian sails, long before J[esus]

C[hrist].  So a fortiori the Gnostic Mass is in harmony."

I celebrated Mass last night  with a small but appreciative group.  Br. Ti jean as Deacon, intoned the full list of Saints and rang the bell at the marriage collect in honor of The Beast and his Bride.

“Many contemporary Yoga practitioners, especially those in Western countries, look upon asana as a tool for achieving physical fitness and flexibility. The yogic postures have certainly demonstrated their physiological benefits in millions of cases. They improve musculoskeletal flexibility, strength, resilience, endurance, cardiovascular and respiratory efficiency, endocrine and gastrointestinal functioning, immunity, sleep, eye-hand coordination, balance. Experiments also have shown various psychological benefits, including improvement of somatic awareness, attention, memory, learning, and mood. The regular practice of postures also decreases anxiety, depression, and aggression.”

“All these effects are clearly beneficial and highly desirable. Yet, the traditional purpose of asana is something for more radical, namely to assist the Hatha-Yoga practitioner in the creation of an “adamantine body” (vajra-deha) or “divine body” (divya-deha). This is a transubstantiated body that is immortal and completely under the control of the adept's will (which is merged with the Divine Will). It is an energy body that, depending on the adept’s wish, is either visible or invisible to the human eye. In this body, the liberated master can carry out benevolent activities with the least possible obstruction.”

"...there is something in the nature of mystical experiences that demands secrecy, as if the archetype behind the events which are in process needs a certain tension in order for it to be fulfilled. The alchemist envisioned this secrecy in their image of the closed vessel. In many fairy tales the hero or heroine is ordered not to say anything until the ordeal is over. In the greek religious mysteries the participants were threatended with death if they told what happened. Initiation rites also require sworn secrecy. Secrecy intensifies, allowing what is coming to fruition to swell and grow in silence so that later it can be brought forth and shown. Secrecy is the ground of revelation, making revelation possible; what happens secretly in the wings, behind the scenes, makes possible the drama when the curtains open and the lights go up."

-From James Hillman's commentary to Kundalini by Gopi Krishna

This passage struck me as being very meaningful in light of the secrets of initiation, and also the aplication of the fourth power of the sphinx in practical workings.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

Kaaba was great! I want to thank the organizers and presenters for a weekend full of thought provoking lectures and informal discussion. I'm really proud of Seven Spirits for pulling this event off. Also, Lapis Lazuli for providing transport and other help. Although the venue wasn't perfect we improvised and made it work, The endless work of the Black Rose Caffe helped make this possible. It was great meeting OTO members from all over the country. I've personally got a lot of ideas about how to improve my own work for the body and help take us to the next level. I need to go over my notes and figure out how to implement some of these ideas here locally in the following months. I have to admit leadership is not something that comes naturally to me, but I do it because it needs to be done and I want to see the local body flourish. So, it's great to get some pointers and direction from those who have gone before.

After Kaaba was officially over we went to the Temple and celebrated Mass. Although there where over 30 people crowded into a un-air conditioned converted garage, the Mass was really moving and seemed to be appreciated by those in attendance.

Love is the law, love under will.
