I slowly grow sick of my car. Shelling out all my money on gasoline, expensive repairs, insurance, and DMV fees, I feel trapped in an endless vacuum of the wallet. The dawn of the Oil Wars does not help my mood. And of course, the window that a car puts between me and the world. But a car is also a great convenience and hard to live without, especially to those who need to travel more than a few miles a day. So I bike as much as possible, and keep my car for necessity. I knew Lima would be a nightmare as soon as we got off the plane and walked into the Lima airport. A little boy crawled all over the luggage, beating on each piece with balled fists. He was apparently looking for cameras or other expensive things. After my experience in Mexico, I wasn’t taking any chances with anybody, including little children. Dodging the devious types who were offering us hotels and taxi rides, we nervously grabbed our luggage, and made for the exit.
