In a city full of amateurs... (blog entry) ...I found some PROFESSIONAL workmen: Sunny Painting and Drywall.

They're a Korean family: the brothers do the work, and the daughter does estimates and sets up appointments. You gotta love a family that works well together.

Plus, they'r... read more

T-Day in the Triangle of Death (blog entry) So we played Pictionary and Charades for Thanksgiving, the few of us who're left here. Apparently Your Humble Narrator is pretty good at the Pictionary thing: "Razor" was trivial; "Nurse" earned me some abuse; "Paradise" like to killed me - but I... read more

Happyness is... (blog entry) So on the 16-hour flight from DFW to Kuwait City International Airport (en route to Baghdad), they plied us with dollar movies. Most of 'em I could take or leave, but "The Pursuit of Happyness" is a must-see. Probably a must-own. I think Will Sm... read more

Plus, they're polite, fast and ruthlessly efficient. I thought I had a ceiling that needed to be repainted. After three days of ripping out drywall and replacing insulation (still soaked three weeks after the leak), the place looks like nothing ever happened.

Apparently Your Humble Narrator is pretty good at the Pictionary thing: "Razor" was trivial; "Nurse" earned me some abuse; "Paradise" like to killed me - but I nailed all of 'em. And they're STILL giving me crap about the Jewish guy's rendition of Jesus, back in September!

But the Feat of the Evening has to go to my diminutive (female) lieutenant, for her Charades rendition of "Milkshake"... read more

Sydney Poitier refused to take a role that portrayed a black man as anything less than noble - which, in the 60s, meant that he turned down a lot of work. Will Smith grew up in the era of BET, so he... read more

Thing is...even if I HAD a decent camera... I'd never have it with me. The great thing about my Kodak is that it's PRETTY good in most situations (like shooting video from helicopters flying over Baghdad), and fits in my pocket.
