morels.... we managed to find enough for a nice plateful in one outing this year. These two are the largest morels I have ever found. The larger of the two was hiding under the trunk of a fallen tree that hadn't quite touched the ground yet. We sauteed them in butter.....

A mulberry tree in our backyard has decided to grow the largest, most delightful fruit it possibly could - and place them within reach. The branch is covered with mulberries most of which are as big around as my index finger. The branch is long and swoops down to touch the ground so we have to bend down to pick most of the fruit and it spreads out over about 10 feet so there are TONS of berries within reach - the photo shows just a smal part of the larger branch. I wonder if the tree likes... read more

chocolate (almost) ice cream....mmmmm....
I'm eating it right now - not for lunch but as an after lunch treat. Really, though, it's not ice cream at all. It's made of soy milk and it is delicious! I was searching for Godiva Belgian Dark chocolate, but couldn't find it so I settled on the soy instead. It has been many years since we last had ice cream in the house so I was disappointed to find that Gerbes is no longer selling the Belgian Dark but the soy ice cream is still a good substitute. this one is another micro flower that looks like an orchid. the flowers are about 3/8 of an inch long. they are so beautiful! All the little wild things growing free in the yard - I love them!
