Flattery will get you everywhere...

December 17, 2008
Lexi is gorgeous, brainy, and unusually sincere. She's got such a loving warm heart and isn't afraid to use it to reach out and connect with people. I'm really glad this sweet soul is in my life and that I can call her FRIEND.

You know when someone gets in your fucking brain and you can't get them out but they're in there and there's really nothing you can do, so you might as well just savor the experience even if it causes you to do really horrible things like continue run on sentences (or forget key punctuation) when you know you should stop, but then again it feels so right and all of a sudden it dawns on you, you're scared, you're scared because you have revealed too much of yourself to someone, and then you second guess your almost-scaredy-cattedness because you also know that makes you human: you have revealed yourself and what is she gonna do (?), is she gonna respect your courage, or is she going to use her smarts to poke at your vulnerability, because although this started as a few words of praise, perhaps it is something greater, perhaps it is the start of acknowledging your courage to say what you feel regardless of consequences? So yeah, that's her. She's that much of a showstopper, she made me rethink. What greater -- and real -- compliment could I give?

Caution: Highly addictive. Use caution when operating heavy machinery. May be exceptionally snarky, witty, or perceptive. May attract high amounts of flirtatious attention from men and/or women. Has been proven to combine brains and sex appeal in unusually high amounts.

Contains substances known to the state of california to cause smiles, dancing, and warm glowy feelings. Highly pleasant to be around. An excellent cuddler. Take only before, during, or after meals (whichever you can get).

Treadmarks of Progress Across My Back

I live in a great 2-bedroom apartment in Echo Park. I have a fantastic roommate, Helen. Many of you probably know her. I'm looking to get out my lease to live with my fiance. Would love to hear if anyone is interested!

My roommate was raped. Maybe she's not comfortable using that language, but I am.

English has only one word to describe rape. Really, we need a pair of words, such as murder and manslaughter, to contrast an act committed with the intent to hurt with one committed without it. I do not believe that the person who had sex with my roommate intended to hurt her. Nevertheless, that's exactly what happened.

We live in a patriarchal society, and sexual assault against women remains a fact of e... read more

Prop 4 is the one that requires teenagers to notify their parents if they want to have an abortion. I mean, come on. Legally mandating communication within a family? Last time I checked, you can't force people to communicate. Girls who don't feel they can come to their parents because they're scared they'll be beaten or kicked out of the house aren't going to be made any safer by a law mandating parental notification. In addition, it creates a whole maze of bureaucracy, as can be demonstrated... read more

The charter school I work for (as a substitute) just offered me a full-time gig as an English teacher. I get benefits! And 20 days a year PTO (in addition to our regular 11 paid holidays)! And a reasonable salary! And I even like the people I'll be working with!

Yikes. Does this mean I'm headed for suburbia and 2.3 kids and a dog?
