</a>
<div>Okay all you lovers of fire. How ironic is this. Aradeeya, your resident pyro, has (or is attempting to) put out the fire.

Yes, today is day 4 without a cigarette.

It is not as hard as I thought it would be. It is much, much, much MUCH MUCH harder.

Imagine if....you could never buy shoes again.
Imagine if.....you could never eat chocolate again.
Imagine if....you had to stop dancing.

Its all that and worse. (okay, maybe not as bad as stopping dancing...but hey, I'm only on day 4, cut me some slack).

I know smoking is bad, unhealthy, socially unacceptable, all of that. But you know what?

I like it. I REALLY like smoking. Its stupid, I know. But I can't help it. Giving up something you don't like is easy. Giving up something that you really like and enjoy is damned hard.

Each day has gotten a bit easier, but not much. I have identified my key "times" that I crave smoking. I have been told that is important to do - yet I am not sure why. Other than the fact that my husband is now able to set "tantrum alarms" and leave the room when one is about to manifest. I have also identified that it is not nicotine that I like...its the actual act of smoking. The inhaling, and the smoke going into my lungs. (Maybe I was a dragon in a former life?) - the Nicorette burned my throat and made me throw up. Still wanted a smoke. My internal temperature regulator is out of control...I'm mostly hot or burning up. I sweat constantly. Have NO idea if this is normal or not. I eat a lot of ice. And pee a lot. I get angry for very small things. I am irritated when people say "I'm proud of you". I want to hit them. I want to scream "What the hell have YOU ever given up that makes we WANT you to be proud of me??!!" I smashed a glass the other day because something had dried onto it that I couldn't get off. I have no idea if this is normal either. Probably, it isn't.

I am still clinging to my usual thought/security blankets that support my habit:
"Smoking is sexy". (Its true - many men have told me they thought so, and there are thousands of fetish sites out there to prove it).
"If its the ONLY bad habit I have (mostly true) then how bad can it be? Its not like I'm a pack a day...".
"My dad smoked since he was 13, and died of skin cancer. His Dr. said his lungs were fine."
"I'm going to die anyways, why not die happy?"
"Smoking is legal, cigarettes are a legal product. I can smoke if I want to."
"I've given up SO MUCH ELSE in my life to be healthy (hamburgers, sugar, all kinds of wonderful things) WHY do I have to give up something else??"

I know these thoughts are not rational, but they are there.

I confess - the "smoker's lungs" at the Bodyworlds 3 Exhibition hit a chord.

I've been told that it isn't so much "giving up a habit" as it is "making a positive life change". I've been told to avoid situations that stimulate my desire to smoke. For me, this means I can no longer eat, drink, talk on the phone, have sex, read, drive, take the bus, or in fact, leave my house. I must now become an anorexic celibate sociopathic recluse. Makes me wonder if the change is really all that positive.

My solace is that I have discovered "Calms" - the mildest of homeopathic tranquilizers. It doesn't really fix anything, but it makes me care quite a bit less. Just my luck - next year, I'll be writing about quitting my Calms addiction.

All I keep thinking is...something good better fucking come of this. Really, really good. I damned well better wake up one day feeling the best I've ever felt, because it sure hasn't happened yet. I better be able to freakin' pee gold and fart rainbows because I'm still not sure this is all worth it.

Goddesses everywhere, help me. And DO NOT tell me how fucking proud you are of me because so fucking help me I'll hunt you down and force feed you an entire pack.

<div>Just a quick note to say THE FAINT KICKED SOME MAJOR ASS at Richards on Richards Friday night! My head and neck are still sore from rockin' out. I wouldn't say this band puts out awesome CDs. I would say this band should either release some live material or just give up on CDs altogether and tour until their fingers bleed.

There are no words, my friends. No words. </div>

How To Be a Cultist

    </a>
<div>How To Be A Cultist (courtesay of www.strangeplaces.net)

Recently, the Society For Evil Overlords has noticed a regrettable decline in the availability and quality of fanatical henchmen, evil priests, and willing sacrificial victims. We wish to correct this growing problem by submitting the following general guidelines for Cultists.

1. Pick one faith and stay with it. Dilettantism is the mark of the amateur.

2. Avoid needless embarrassment. Practise the correct pronunciation of your deity's name in the privacy of your own room before chanting it in public. Flash cards are often helpful.

3. Never invoke anything bigger than your head.

4. Avoid all cabalistic jewelry over ten pounds in weight -- it attracts unwelcome attention from tourists, policemen, various supernatural creatures, and can be downright dangerous during thunderstorms.

5. Citronella candles may not be used in rituals. I cannot stress this enough. Pastel-colored candles in the shape of cute animals are like beacons to the Powers of Darkness.

6. Always keep your kit with you: candles, chalk, incense, silver knife, Thuggee cord, service revolver, garlic, Yellow Sign, cabfare, condoms, and change.

7. NEVER be the cultist that goes to rough up the hero(es). Ransacking hotel rooms is probably safe, but going 'round to beat up the good guys is a sure route to the bottom of the Thames.

8. When the Black Mass goes awry, stay away from the Evil Priest. Enraged demons always go for the pompous.

9. Don't gloat.

10. If you can't resist gloating, don't reveal your plans.

11. If you do gloat and reveal your plans, don't leave the hero(es) to die slowly. They don't.

12. If you gloat, reveal your plans, and leave the hero(es) to die slowly, don't have the audacity to look surprised when they turn up at the last moment to foil your evil plot.

13. The hero (or heroes) will always show up at the last possible moment to foil your plans. With this in mind, start half an hour early -- they hate that.

14. Plan ahead by selecting ceremonial robes that are easy to run in while still affording ample concealment.

15. Never screw anything whose genetic structure you are not absolutely comfortable with.

16. Never admit to screwing anything whose genetic structure you are not absolutely comfortable with.

17. When a religious artifact begins emitting light, CLOSE YOUR EYES. Thousands of cultists could be saved every year if they'd just remember this simple safety tip.

18. When mutilating cattle, avoid the ones with testicles.

19. During ritual sacrificing, taking bits home for later is now generally considered "bad form."

20. Blood tests are now required for all sacrificial victims before the ritual. The effects of HIV+ offerings on the average malefic deity have never been witnessed by anyone living, or even intact.

21. Contrary to historical belief, drugs and invocations do not mix. When the shit comes down, it is vitally necessary to be able to discern between the gibbering monstrosity to throw the holy water on and the gibbering monstrosity that will fade away after a few hours, some B-complex, and a good hot bath.

22. Never play strip Tarot.

23. Piety and belief are powerful things, and few forces in nature can stand against one who is true to his faith, his God, and his own soul. However, it is also true that the Gods tend to side with the heaviest artillery, so be prepared change sides at the drop of a hat.

24. For those situations where a fresh, living sacrifice is just not feasible (or even possible), the lower ranks of demons can be fooled by microwaving a previously-frozen chunk of ex-victim and cleverly jiggling it. However, a mock victim sculpted from Spam(tm) is right out. </div>

<div>Wow, this guy is fascinating. Two of his major claims to fame was bringing the Kama Sutra to the West and translating it, and being the first white person ever to visit Mecca. He spoke something like 40 languages - almost got killed dozens of times, travelled the world - fell in love with Islam and ended up a Sufi.

I can't wait to get past the fourth chapter!!</div>

<div>Posted a Blog that wasn't a survey!! No really - I got married! That was over a month ago, but I'm excited now , because we got our pictures back! Our photographers were Blue Olive Photography in Vancouver - most likely the two coolest people I've ever met. So, for those of you who are as interested in me as I am (not likely) - here is the link to our Engagement and our Wedding photos - they have sound too, so make sure your speakers aren't too loud!

I never thought marriage would "change" me, and really it hasn't - although there is this wonderful *shift* that has happened. I always thought that marriage meant chains and boredom and feeling locked down to something. Weird as it is - I feel more free than I've ever felt. As someone who never wanted to get married and never thought it would happen to me, it has been just a wonderful experience. I think the most amazing thing is how incredibly supportive our friends and family have been - its like us getting married has injected all this love to everyone around us, it was so evident at the reception! Its really cool to see. Well, just have a look at the photos. They speak for themselves.

Special props to Ala Nar, who I just couldn't have done it without. You ladies being there was more precious to me than words could express - and I've never had more fun dancing with you. EVER!! "Aradeeya dances with Ala Nar to the Spice Girls in her wedding dress". What gets better than that?? Okay - maybe the dance my hubby did was better than that....but not much. ;)

Self-awareness in dance

<div>Wow. So this is my second blog post and nobody even had to 'tag' me to do it! I want to share something I found inspiring.

Background story: On the Bellydance Nation tribe, there was an article posted from the Gilded Serpent regarding a Tribal Fusion piece performed at Tribal Fest some time back.

http://www.gildedserpent.com/art36/BarbGcontroversy.htm
http://www.gildedserpent.com/art36/Sashiwarning.htm

Many of you are probably already aware of the controversial "Sashi" performance - the article in GS refered to it as "Sashi-kabob". I'll leave it to you all to do the rest of the background research on this. I wasn't at the festival and I didn't see the performance. But I've been following the "fallout" out of a desire to understand more about the dynamic of the dance community and specifically, the evolution of Tribal.

Note that I am not a Tribal dancer. I consider Tribal, in all its variations, to be an essential part of our dance community. It just so happens that my heart belongs to Egyptian style, and this is what I am pursuing. I have very little knowledge of Tribal other than what I have seen and what I read, I do not claim to really *grasp* any aspect of Tribal at all. Perhaps this is why I find the evolution of this style so fascinating....because I see it from a bit of an "outsider" perspective.

I'll try to make this short - the original editorial/review of Sashi's performance, in my opinion, was....well, terrible. It was not professional, objective, or intelligent. The author from what I understand was not even AT the performance! I took a moment and thought "How would I react, if this article was about me?" - well, I have a bit of a temper problem, so I probably would have lost it.

The inspiring bit is Sashi's response to the original article here: http://www.gildedserpent.com/art36/SashiResponse.htm

This woman blew me away. Not only is she intelligent, articulate, objective, and professional, she is entirely non-confrontational, not defensive in any way, and shows an amazing level of self-awareness and intrinsic love and respect for dance, ritual and performance.

When we talk about knowing what you're fusing before you fuse it - this woman REALLY knows! I don't think any dancer, myself included, really has as firm a grasp of what they're representing as this woman does. This article really made me think long and hard about that. A dancer who was any less confident in what she was doing would never have been able to express herself in such a clear and loving way.

One doesn't have to be a Tribal dancer to enjoy it - one doesn't have to let go of their own values to enjoy another's creation. It isn't fair to expect other people to live up to our expectations of who we think they are, or how they should express themselves. Sashi's article really illustrates that with self awareness, when we act and create from a place of love and respect, there is a place for everyone.

And I'm going to work on keeping my temper. :)

Blessed Be,

<div>Hi. Um - wow. I'm a blog virgin. I suddenly feel rather dirty.

Ok, so I think I'm supposed to play this "tag" game - I'm supposed to write 8 'little known" things about myself and then bother 6 other people to do the same thing.

This is going to be tough because there is a REASON people don't know these things about me. But I'll give it a shot.

1 - my First Nations name is "Runs With Scissors"

2 - I've never seen Titanic and have no intention of ever seeing it

3 - I love the Powerpuff Girls

4 - I used to be a combat-boot wearing purple haired chain-laden punk rocker until Bellydance turned me into a girly girl

5 - I can sing Happy Birthday in Swedish

6 - I've never tasted durin but am very curious

7 - my birthday is the same as Adam Ant

8 - I climbed Kilimanjaro

Now....who is next? </div>
