Intertribal Flow

trance-like ringing of Mali guitar
on the digital transfer from the motherland

ever shifting clouds of fragrant incense and sensimilia whiff and waft
delivering to me long supressed visions of love lost and for centuries held at bay

candelight imitating a once shared constellation of stars
flickers, sways and dances on these all too near horizons

lukewarm tea sipped from a glazed earthen cup
would taste all the sweeter if suckled from shared lips

steady heart-sounds keep cadence with the primal beat, longing to send an urgent message
i pray my drumming reaches the ear of a love distanced by brutal separation and continental land-split

Had I been clear-headed
there would have been
no pattern of sanity
to follow.
Out of this confusion
I bring my heart,
a pale blue crystal.
a single rose,
a kiss long held for you
before the myth of Atlantis
was created to challenge
the genius of
Memphis and Senegal.
I long for the occult sciences
to inform you of my affections,
and if this evidence
is insufficient,
then let a single dream
containing the content of my soul
spill throughout your sleep,
and from the nights
I have longed for you
in a spell of masturbation
take whatever voice I would use
to call out your name
in the sleeping garden,
take whatever suits you,
my love, for now.
