Join us on Saturday, November 24th when the Adham Shaikh Collective performs their first-ever live show at the Victoria Event Center! Bringing the best of the tribal world sounds of the Juno-nominated album Fusion and the newly reselased album Collectivity along with live didj, african percussion, flutes, mbira, sax, vocals, spoken word and more.
This show will range in tempo and flavour from lush, exotic downtempo bellydance grooves to the full tribal sounds more commonly heard in Adham's DJ sets! You can count on this being a live musical odyssey rarely experienced in Victoria - one that'll keep you smiling and dancing for weeks!

David Starfire (Six Degrees) is a international known producer/multi-instrumentalist/DJ from LA. His production style is eclectic, varying from Dance to Rock, Hip Hop to Bhangra and everything in between. David has performed at large scale international festivals such as Coachella, Love Parade, Electric Picnic, Shambhala, Burning Man, Lightning in a Bottle and Earthdance. David adds live energy to his DJ set by playing bass guitar and electronic hand drums and is currently signed to Six Degrees Records and has a 5 song EP titled "Bombay Beatz" released in Fall of 2007.
Slicing up the funkiest selection of breaks and beats for over a decade, Timothy Wisdom (Tribal Harmonix, TimothyWisdom.com) is the instigator of fun. He's been blowing up dance floors from Vancouver's Sonar and Club23 to the notorious Atomic in Ottawa and even Calio's in St. John's, where he was a headliner and founder of Atlantic Canada's dance movement more than 15 years ago!Timothy is a master of his artform, legendary for his crazy scratches, instant remixed and hilarious antics! He has also headlined or performed at some of our favourite festivals including Diversity, Apex, Unity, Reconvergence of the Tribes and Intention.

DJ’ing and promoting for over 10 years they have turned their attention to the studio where they are now developing their production project, DAEGA soundsystem. Forrest Boden has been sculpting masks from rawhide since 1990 for both collectors and performers and brings 17 years of teaching art into his preparation for your experience. The masks are birthed from a dance between your muse and your attention. You will finish the class with a mask you can wear comfortably for movement, dance, or ceremony and use as an altar symbol, wall hanging or gift.
The class will be 4 consecutive evenings

Dub Gabriel has been pushing the boundaries of the New York dub/electronic scene for over 10 years. Coming up as a musician/producer/DJ/promoter on the streets of Williamsburg Brooklyn in the mid 90’s, his musical explorations led him to the anarchic fringes of the downtown NY scene and the guerilla-electro-mysticism of Wordsound and The Baraka Foundation. Drinking deep from this dangerous brew of unyielding creativity, DG pushed out into space and our world have never been the same since.
Picture a post-apocalyptic Brooklyn rooftop, somewhere in the not too distant future. The scene is drenched in a smog-orange sunset haze as a large spaceship, bristling with speakers and pumping bass like a soundsystem truck from 1970’s Kingston touches down. The spectacle attracts a dusted assemblage of Rastafarian monks and Bedouin Shamans, coming out of the woodwork to call our collective ancestors like they’ve done since the beginning of time. This is close to the scene evoked by resident Brooklyn DJ/Producer/Mad Scientist Dub Gabriel.

Earthdance, the Global Dance Festival for Peace has grown to become the world's largest simultaneous music and dance event. Founded in 1996, with 22 cities and 18 countries participating, Earthdance has grown to over 300 locations in 60 countries participating in 2007, with locations ranging from the club-lands of New York to the rainforests of Brazil. Every year, in alignment with the International Day of Peace, over 200,000 people unite in dance with hundreds of thousands more joining online in support of global peace and humanitarian aims.
The defining moment of each Earthdance event is a synchronized link-up, (4pm Pacifc Standard Time) when every event around the world plays a specially produced song called "The Prayer for Peace" at exactly the same time.
Earthdance has been described by the music industry as the "Dance Aid" for the new millennium. The aim of the event is to bring together global communities to create a synchronized global festival and dance event to help fund humanitarian causes and develop an environment of peace throughout the global community.

Delhi 2 Dublin is the new sound of music! Blending east and west, the five member D2D crew takes listeners on a borderless trip through global sounds and synchronicities. The band fuses the traditional sounds of tabla, dhol, fiddle, and sitar to create a highly charged multi-cultural dance celebration.
Originally formed for a one-shot performance during Vancouver's Celtic Fest in March of 2006, word of their foot stomping, high energy live set started to spread, and the project soon took a life of it's own. Recently, D2D were invited to open the massive Canada Day celebrations on Parliament Hill in Ottawa where they collaborated with Irish and Indian dancers and the National Circus School. They have since played many of the West Coast Canadian festivals and are poised to take the act to a global level.

Swelling in primordial pulses and wholloping whoops, the tacit tones of Shane Philip's didgeridoo hold the power to still listeners into silence or encourage audiences to rise up in a tribal swell of intoxicating spirit -- with sometimes but a heartbeat in between. Meanwhile his hands will be skilfully juggling between shaking up rhythms with his aslatua, driving the dance floor with his djembe and sliding out grooves on his Weissenborn-style guitar while his foot taps in earthshaking electronic kicks wherever they might fit. He is a one-man show weaving sounds that inspire audiences anywhere he goes.
From early childhood moments of drumming kitchen tables and car dashboards, to January 2008's release of his latest album, "In The Moment" Shane's musical stylings have been self-taught and self-motivated every step of the way. Borrowing from folk, reggae, blues and beyond, he blurs the boundaries of expectation and music into an altogether unique soundscape. Shanes' current musical forays tend toward an organic dance sound, and whether playing with spirited mayhem, or with mellow gold, Shane Philip presents songs that are consistently well crafted, while always leaving listeners with a positive afterglow.

Based in Vancouver, ZimbaMoto is a collective Afro fusion band with a range from Shona traditional music to contemporary African and Western rhythms. The four piece musical journey begins with Kurai Mubaiwa who hails all the way from Zimbabwe with his Mbira, a melodic 25 key Zimbabwean thumb piano that in Shona mythology is believed to connect the living with the spirit world. The show starts with Kurai wearing his traditional costume of ostrich feather head dress, loin skirt and leg shakers, as he plays the Mbira, singing in his native Shona language. After the traditional set the members of ZimbaMoto join together and take this musical journey to a further height fusing the unique acoustic sounds of the Zimbabwean tenor Marimba and Mbira, with the pulse of the drums, the depth of the bass and rhythmical African guitar riffs.
The band is comprised of four talented world musicians from diverse musical backgrounds: Kurai Mubaiwa has been an established world musician, music teacher and theatre actor since 1994, who has toured across Europe, West Africa, Southern Africa and across Canada opening and/or performing with artists such as Chiwoniso Maraire, Cesaria Evora, Andy Brown, and Oliver Mtukudzi at internationally recognized concerts and festivals. Shambunata has been a professional drummer for 20 years, studying under Lorne Nering with a concentration on musical styles including Jazz, Latin, Classical, Drum' n Bass, funk/hip-hop and world and performed in New York, Rio de Janeiro, the Mayan Riviera and across Canada. Cameron Hood has been a professional musician and teacher for over 30 years. A multi-instrumentalist and a Juno-nominated artist, Cameron has toured Canada, the US and Europe. Mr. Hood has performed at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival many times, as well as the Alcan Dragon Boat Festival, the Canada Day at Canada Place Celebration, and many other large events. Mark Campbell is a talented guitarist and bassist with several years of experience performing with world music groups.

From the streets of Victoria, Masala came together as a diverse source of musical energy, accompanying demonstrations and lighting up Victoria and Vancouver community festivals with rhythms from around the world, from Samba to Haitian and African grooves. The band started as an ad hoc group of percussionists from a wide range of musical inspirations who came together to accompany political demonstrations and marches. Since that time, Masala has evolved rapidly into a focused and professional band that infuses local events and festivals with a dynamic rhythm experience.
The music of Masala is inspired by traditional rhythms from West Africa, Haiti, Cuba, Brazil, and the Middle East. The band is honored to have members who are committed students and teachers of these musical traditions. Instrumentation consists of surdo, repinique, snare, timbau, agogo bell, tambourim, shakers, shekere, kenkeni and cuica. The diversity of these musical sources and this unique combination of instruments ensure an exceptional and distinctive sound that will raise the energy of any event.
Masala's goal is to use music to bring people together in celebration of community and common cultural values. Audience interaction and participation have become essential aspects of a Masala performance. Playing with mobile instruments gives the band liberty to connect and move with the audience on the same level.

Through his work as a lead singer/songwriter, dee-jaying has become a natural evolution for this dynamic live performer. A skilled multi-instrumentalist and dedicated student of music, you never know what he will bring next to his show!
KAMINANDA: Breathing deep into the unified dance of oneness, this producer / multi-instrumentalist is always excited to share in the sounds of celebration. JOSHUA: Joshua has been in and around the Victoria electronic music scene for many years, both as a DJ and promoter. Joshua infuses his infectious Progressive House grooves with layers of Techno, Electro and a dash of Trance - his energetic dance floors are always packed and pumpin'. Joshua has held several local weekly residencies, including the popular Sweatshop at Hush Nightclub alongside DJs Wookie and Beaks McGavin, as well as The Rise, and Rapture with local progressive house powerhouses Yoseff and Freya. Joshua continues to play numerous parties and clubnights, large and small, in and around Victoria and Vancouver, and has played alongside the likes of Max Graham, DJ Nemesis and Greg Benz. Joshua recently graced the mainstage at the 2008 Victoria Electronic Music Festival, and together with DJ Wookie energized the crowd with yet another killer set. One thing is certain - Joshua always leaves them wanting more!
NATRON: The electronica fascination for Natron (Nathan Docksteader) began in the mid 90's after hearing music by The Prodigy, Robert Miles, Sasha & Digweed and Bad Boy Bill’s mad turntablism skills. It was the Moreh brothers (a.k.a. Shiloh) who really shaped the way natron played and listened to music, and Natron's djing style can best be described as a dynamic blend of cutting edge progressive house and tech which has proven to satisfy many dance floors throughout Victoria for the past year. With his recent addition to the Sunset Collaborations roster you can expect to see & hear much more of Natron in the future!
2AM-4AM || DELIRIA vs BEATS WITHOUT BORDERS :: MYTHRIL vs NILS

MYTHRIL: Mythril, a multi-insrtumentalist and visionary artist form Vancouver BC, who has been mixing and making music for over 2 decades, is known for his inspirational musical vision throughout the Pacific Northwest. Performing at many underground gatherings and international festivals, he has brought cutting edge music to dancefloors across North America. From high-powered launches to graceful landings - progresive psy, downtempo, breaks and dub flavour his musical journeys. Some of his favorite producers have shared the stage with him such as Protoculture, Jaia, Antix, Pixel, Koxbox, Deedrah, Shadow FX, Human Blue, Solar Fields, Ott - and many more from international and local rosters as well as art showings at Sunrise, Shambhala and Entheos Festivals including Shpongle's Seattle performance.
NILS: Nils emerged from the deep forest on the Sunshine Coast in the late 90's and was one of a small group of DJ's and Promoters who put that fabled land on the map by organizing many conscious, underground dance events where previously there had been none. Faeries & Fools is the most well known of these events. He now lives in Vancouver where he is a part of the wildly succesful Beats Without Borders Collective. His DJ style is hard to pigeon hole but one can always expect to hear Global soundz with a slant towards tracks that are spiritual and sexy all at once. He believes each set should be a Journey for the dance-floor though he doesn't always know the destination when the Journey begins. In the last few years he has developed a love affair with Victoria and is deeply excited to be playing at "On the Cusp" this year with his good friend and "Baltic Brother" Mythril.

His sets invoke the sacred tribal spirit within us all, calling on us to shake out the energies and beliefs that hold us back. Getting lost in dancefloors since 2000, Mountain Eyes' musical tastes have been honed by the influence of Delira's rainforest events, the magical SPEC gatherings, and the frequenting of underground clubs. He has shared stages with such masters as Human Blue, Adham Shaikh, David Starfire, Osiris Indriya, Telepathic, and Basilisk, as well as west coast heroes Mythril, RJ Solo, Akhentek, Yoseff, Joshua, DJ Dust, Nils, and Lady Ra. Close your eyes, open your heart, and get ready to go on a journey.
CLOUD DANCER: Having traveled many a strange and varied dancefloor, delving deep into emerging scenes and genres over the course of a decade, Cloud Dancer (Chris Immink) stepped behind the decks for the first time a little over 3 years ago - and magic happened both for him, and for his listeners. Since then Cloud Dancer has formed deep roots within Victoria, aligning himself as core crew with the Rainbow Cathedral and Returning Saturn Productions. Crafting diverse & strategic soundscapes ranging from deep sacred downtempo to full-on psytrance with many ethno-infused tangents, , Cloud Dancer plays what he would dance to. For Valentine's Day this year we give to you 5 of the most talented heartists on the west coast! You can count on a beautiful night, a beautiful room, beautiful people and a simply amazing soundscape! Heartbeat 4 includes Vancouver's Lady Ra of Beats Without Borders, who laid down the sexiest DJ set ever at Harvest Castles this last year!
This night will be an amazing cross-section of music, including heart-centered world beat, trance, ethno/fusions, progressive house, psy-trance and more I'm quite certain. Bring your heart, exactly as it is, and make room for it to be a bit bigger when you leave than when you arrived.

Recently relocated from San Francisco, PJ brings a refreshing eclectic sound to the local scene. With roots reaching back to Chicago house in the 90's, in 2001 this Texas boy cut his DJ teeth alongside some of the most respected Tech and Progressive house DJs and producers in Boulder, Colorado. 5 years in the Haight Ashbury followed, where he merrily immersed himself in the funk, roots, afro-beat and the deeper, more organic vibe. These days, PJ splashes around with local techno, electro, and minimal heads, playing venues across BC and most recently opening for the UK legend Terry Francis.

Lady Ra emerged in 1996 via CFRU 93.3 fm in Guelph, Ontario. Freshly trained on antiquated community radio equipment and given free reign of the extensive music library, each show she was able to program was a revelation. Ethnic flavours quickly emerged as her primary passion. Her flair for selecting wicked tracks and mixing them with ambient global sounds brought her many requests for djing local parties. She has played, lived, travelled and danced in far-off places like India, Sri Lanka, SouthEast Asia, Ethiopia, Mexico, and Spain, and studies languages therein partly to better understand all the music she collects along the way. She currently resides in Vancouver, BC, where she is co-founder and resident dj of the Beats without Borders crew. She is inspired to continue her travels both overland and underground, seeking out and weaving old and new world sounds into rich musical tapestries hailing from the Four Corners of Earth.
