Though Green Fairies are not a French thing, that one made me smile. The culture is much too Cartesian for that and I am forever grappling with the armature though I have enough Celtic blood to make me very psychic and hyper-sensitive, therefore unstable and open to learning.
The original Moulin Rouge, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's Moulin Rouge was very seedy but teeming with life which does not come out in this showcase movie. We are a perfect foil for the American culture to project on innocently.

The original cancan dancers had calçon crevé-the split drawers that women used to wear in olden days-and when La Goulue lifted up her leg, sometimes she showed a glimpse at her genitals and the resident inspector would immediately get up and stick a pin in the underwear aperture. And so it was the game every night.

This movie is slightly better than L'artiste which in spite of being a silent movie regroups almost every jaded clichés.
These are poor times for inspiration.

An interesting ritual. 'Tis a bit like the hemp cotton debate in the States. I once made clear candy with anisette. Refreshing with coffee.
