More poly than thou!

One of the things that has become abundantly apparent to me as we've delved farther into a poly lifestyle is that there are about as many varieties of polyamory as there are people who identify with the term. There can also be a feeling from other poly-types that their version of poly is the really where it is at. My, my... where have we seen this before? Anyone experience religious beliefs, where you have Baptists dogging on Quakers, Catholics annoyed with Lutherans, or when lesbians/gay men feel like bisexuals are double-dipping by having their same-sex desires quenched without the social stigma of homosexuality on a daily basis? Oh yes! Let's not forget the people who are too black or too white to be within the ethnic fold.

One of the big draws to polyamory is that it is so inclusive, that the rules are fairly flexible and usually involve the words "honesty" and "communication". Why is it that we still feel drawn to make distinctions based on how closely someone else's experience of poly reflects our own? How can we move away from feeling less or more poly than others and just embrace the differences in our expression of the concept as individuals?

In the meantime, I'll be sitting over here being more poly than thou!
