Why can't I sleep????

   Sat, September 29, 2007 - 2:15 AM
Ok, this has been a theme for awhile. I just can't fucking sleep. It is driving me insane! It is 5:15am and I am up typing on the computer. Went to bed at 1:30 and tossed and turned until I finally gave up and got out of bed! Grrrrrrrr.......... Man this really sucks. I so don't want to have to take any pills to be able to sleep but this shit is getting so annoying!

Maybe if someone petted the Kitty until she purred, she might catnap...? Nice Kitty...Good Kitty...

Hope you get some sleep soon.

I had insomnia for many years and it certainly took a toll on my sanity. A few things helped me out (although it doesn't mean it will work for you).

A doctor recommended that I avoid caffeine (chemical imbalance). I had to avoid exercise too close to when I would go to bed. Both of these are chemical factors. To help with the mental factors (ie think too much), I began listening to radio plays (30 minute episodes) to distract myself. Since I was thinking (or worrying) too much, hearing a story before sleep helped me to take my mind off of things. If you have an iPod or some other mp3 player or cd player, set it up to play something relaxing without too many dynamic changes. I keep it at 30 minutes or less. If it runs longer, I fall asleep and wake up again because it's still playing. Most of the better mp3 players have timers on them to turn it off and CD players will run the duration of the disc and stop. If you don't have any radio plays, you can try "books on tape/cd" since they can be pretty boring. ;-) It usually only takes around 5-10 minutes for me to fall asleep now. I've been using these tricks for around 15 years.

Between the chemical imbalance and thinking too much, I didn't stand a chance of any good rest. These things helped me out. One thing I do know is that people can become pretty sick without good rest. Good luck and take care of yourself! :-)

I had the same problem as Nevik. He gave good suggestions.

try some white noise. Don't use music or the tv-anything you have to concentrate on. Running water, sound of the rainforest even static.

Or

an earth Shatterring orgasm.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I am going to try them to see if anything will work. I used to fall asleep to this ocean CD but I haven't had that in years. I may have to pick one up again. :) Hmmm...seems that the petting or a mind-blowing orgasm are also good options as well! I am going to have to get on those ones right away! ;)

I sympathize. I've been having issues with insomnia and the eventual crash the last few weeks, myself. For me it's a cyclical thing and I hope you 'turn the corner' soon. Try regulating your sleep schedule, get a routine together for 'bedtime', get out of the habit of doing non-essential activities in bed, the early advice about avoiding stimulants is dead on, if suffering from aggravated stress levels try and engage in stress relief activities and cut out any naps during the day. Wish I had sure fire advice instead of this stuff, but I'm at a loss for a silver bullet on the matter.

Good luck!
