No, it can't be? N'uh...but it was, really and truly, the owner of the Vault Martini bar in Portland had this painting especially commissioned. It was from a photo originally taken only for Cocteau Twins artwork. The logo and his extensive martini menu were designed to look very V23 envelope. He also thanked Tori Amos, Jane Siberry and Maria McKee for their lyrics and inspiration. It's just to sweet to be a smart ass about it. I can't tease ... read more
Supertime and I left the house ahead of schedule, but when we went to pick up my friend's car to use as our teamsters transport option - the duped key she left for us - not only didn't work - it got stuck in the ignition. After trying for a half hour we finally got it out. We would have been so screwed if we had to deal with some car repair!

Then practice losing farther, losing faster: places, and names, and where it was you meant to travel. None of these will ... read more
I've been wanting to make a film of this since I first read it in magazine in 1998. Isabel Nathaniel lives in Dallas, not far from where I grew up. She's in her 50's. I'd love to have a recording of her reading this. I love this one. I really do. The way she works the senses is so satisfying.

Summer Whites by Isabel Nathaniel I want old-fashioned metaphor; I dress in black. My son was murdered. I bear witness in black. The graveyard shocks with rampant green. In a rusted chair... read more

We'll start with Frank O'Hara: Benjamin Franklin or Isadora Duncan It seems that I'm carrying a cloud in my arms, and it's crying. Do we only live to be fifty so we can say "His silver cranium, heart! bursts, doesn't, o' children, do you love him?" Anxiety, they say, never knew him, he was like basket before it. Ambassadors! are you allowed to be elegant ... read more
