I am Egyptian born and raised, and was interested in dance at a young age. I became part of the folklore dance group in my high school. In University I was a major part of the Cairo University folklore dance group, as well as a dancer, assistant teacher and stage director in my Law College dance group. I twice represented Cairo University in the Ismalaya International Dance festival. At the festival I won an award “for taking dance beyond the surface” for the use of expression and feeling in her dance.
The Ismalya International Dance Festival is held every 4 years in Egypt, in a different city, where dance companies from all over the world come to perform. The goal of the festival is to share different kinds of folklore dance cultures. It is a full week of intensive shows, dance and music.
I completed university with a degree in Egyptian Law and minored in the History of Egyptian Culture and Tradition. At the same time, I joined the world famous Reda Troupe, dancing Egyptian folklore professionally.
I have been trained by and worked with the likes of Mahmoud Reda, Hisham Saleh, Hassan Afefe, Farouk Mustafa, Aida Nour, Tito, Mohammed El’Hossiany, and Duaa El’Dwaa.
Beside innumerous performances, I have appeared on Layali El Television in Egypt several times performing Egyptian Folklore.
I participated in the opening of many major shows in Cairo, like the 6th of October Festival, with famous singers like Mohammed El Helw, Ali Hagar, Nadia Mustafa and Samir Eskandaroni.
In 2003, I moved to Canada and immediately began teaching and performing. With Dr. George Sawa’s invitation, I lectured in York University and explained an ancient Sumerian passage on dance.
In 2006, I began teaching at Hannan’s Bellydance Studio and founded the Rhythm of the Nile Dance Company.
Currently I am the owner of Hannan's Bellydance Studio in Toronto Ontario.
