Flash Dancing With the Cosmos
(blog entry)
It was while hiking along among the many hoodoos, tallying my thoughts after a stupendous day in the desert, when the bright glint caught my eye. I turned in its direction (for I am attracted to shiny things) but it had vanished. It was as if the ...

There's this magical place...
(blog entry)
I happened upon. It’s a barren land parched by a sweltering sun. Its inhabitants (those that I could see) are few—small and reptilian or green and spiked—and somehow manage an existence in this austere desert habitat.

Cornering the Late Afternoon
(blog entry)
In the corner of our yard there's this place to where I sometimes retreat--oft times with a book and a bottle of Georgia muscadine wine. It’s a place to relax, contemplate things, maybe even meditate….

Day Trekking on Blood: Halloween!
(blog entry)
Dayhiking to Blood Mountain’s summit has been a favorite bimonthly (or so) pastime of mine for over thirty years now. It’s a two and a half mile trek one way with a 1400 foot elevation gain, and its 4,461’ sunny crown offers scenic vistas in every...

Kites at sunset--Burning Man 2008
(blog entry)
I happened upon this strange city--a kaleidoscope of tents and sundry wagons--in a barren land scorched by a merciless sun. Its inhabitants were eking out an existence of sorts, although their exuberant dance, colorful dress, and affirmative vibe ...

I turned in its direction (for I am attracted to shiny things) but it had vanished. It was as if the moment had passed in a few footsteps, so I slowly retraced those steps—a going back in time, if you will--and suddenly there it was once again! It was a serendipitous alignment to be sure: A sun chasing the western horizon, a clear sky and stones amo...

But it’s also a place filled with Goblins and Hoodoos, sculpted by the wind and rain… and that greatest sculptor of all: geological time. Some are human-sized while others are many stories tall. Some are simply amorphous while others take on the likenesses of fanciful char... read more

I usually sit in a rope swing hanging from a sturdy red maple limb while nearby stands this Hindu deity statue I picked up at a bargin from a roadside yard art vendor (it’s not Saraswati, but as close as I could get in this neck of the woods). I’ve also stacked several pinnacles of riverston... read more

Back in the day I sometimes ran up and back down this zenith hump on Georgia’s portion of the AT, but nowadays I simply choose to walk.

Its inhabitants were eking out an existence of sorts, although their exuberant dance, colorful dress, and affirmative vibe seemed to belie the otherwise austere habitat they deemed home.
