I wanted to describe my wonderfully delightful, though brief, time in MD for basically 24 hours this weekend. I drove to Aaron and Karen's in Columbia late Saturday afternoon, where I was treated like a queen by those two amazing, adorable, and generously kind folk. Aaron made a fabulous morning feast before our trip to the faire, and even more of a treat was him turning me on to Eddie Izzard! My life changed spectacularly!!!
We got to the faire for opening, hooked up with their friend Rich and their houseguest Chantall, and proceeded in for merriment and mayhem. I have been making an annual pilgrimmage to the md faire for about 14 years, and have never missed Hack and Slash and Shakespeare Skum. They are still my faves after all these years, still funny, still making me weep with laughter and pee my pants. In between those moments of hilarity there were musical interludes with the Rogues and Gypsophilia. I watched the always gorgeous and graceful Karen (Samira) bewitch all around her with her glorious dancing. We always seemed to meet up at the White Hart for chatting sessions with other McGroyne's. Had a delightful moment when Big B reminded me of a hilarious Pennsic improv I participated in with him and Red (Bernard, Gina, and Marie ) which mysteriously slipped my mind til he brought it up yesterday. A very sweet gentleman in Viking garb gifted me with an unusually beautiful rose, thanking me for my "radiant beauty." The whole day was filled with these kinds of sweet isolated moments.
The weather was heavily humid with teeny showers interspersing here and there. I sadly hit the road at 6pm, with hopes and dreams of returing to one of my favorite places in the world. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of my hosts, Karen and Aaron.
