<div>Right now you should be listening to purrcast:

ding0 and I brainstormed purrcast a few months ago, and then he decided to make it happen. I keep the cats fed and happy so they purr, he sticks a micophone in their faces and puts the recordings online. We hope to expand the show in the near future, but until then you can relax to the sounds of our happy cats. Hit play multiple times for maximum relaxation. </div>

    </a>
<div>I am so excited to take another workshop with Lisa - she's fun, and you learn so much. This one is labled for tribal dancers, but will really benefit ANY dancer who is looking to learn more about dancing to live music.

Dancing can reveal all the mystery that music conceals. ~Charles Baudelaire

In this workshop we will explore the basics of music theory and how use that knowledge to become a more expressive tribal style dancer. Students will learn how to add emotion and drama to tribal style by working with and understanding different types of music and Middle Eastern rhythms.

For the last hour, we will work with a live drummer and students will learn how to communicate with a drummer in both solo and group improv situations.

This workshop is for all level dancers, and is not only for tribal dancers. The information about music theory, song structure, and communicating with live musicians is valuable for any style BD/MED performer.

Lisa is also teaching Saturday September 29th at the BIRDS Festival; this workshop will be about Middle Eastern rhythms, especially the odd ones!

<div>Got back from TribeOriginal after having a fine time, except for the beginning of the trip down there, which you can read about on my LJ:
http://kazoogrrl.livejournal.com/388900.html?nc=10
It made the whole trip a little surreal. Work has been a little tough, and I'm distracted, but it's going ok. I'm trying to get some momentum going for some new projects.

Came back from the trip seriously inspired and slightly sad, i.e. why the hell doesn't the Baltimore dance scene have the classes I want and why in the hell didn't I start dancing about 10 years earlier (I can almost answer the second: because 10 years ago I was an insecure idiot who was more concerned about what other people thought of me than what made me happy. Hey, that was easy!). Am also kicking myself for not taking Zafira's sword class, though my friend appreciated borrowing my sword and I can also watch the Caravan Serai video for jumping off points.

This weekend is quiet, then next weekend is BIRDS Festival and the workshop we're hosting with our teacher Lisa Zahiya. Local dancers, if you're interested she's teaching Saturday at BIRDS (ME rhythms and dancing) and Sunday in Fells Point at Aura Movement (Dancing to live music for the tribal dancer). Info on her site, and I'll post a more offical announcement soon:
http://lisazahiya.com/

Also, I'll be hitting Tribal Cafe on the 30th, especially for the super secret guest.

And, that's about all now. *sigh* I wish vacation was for forever!

All Tribal Night - question

<div>To anyone who has danced at/been to the All Tribal Night at the Casablanca:

What's the crowd like? I'm assuming just about any music is ok to use? And it's a pretty large space , dancing to three sides of the audience, correct?

We'll be there next week and are trying to pull everything together!

Thanks!

Kallisti in Philly

<div>Kallisti Tribal is traveling to Philly Saturday to dance and hang out at "http://www.tribalbellies.com/events.htm" (ahem, that's a plug if anyone wants to come see us).

Philly area people - we plan on getting to town around 3pm, and we don't have to be at the location until 6:30-7ish. Would anyone have suggestions on places to:

* have a nice (and not too pricey) late lunch? All food styles welcome, we're not picky.
* chill out and hang for a little while? This includes cultural things to see, cafes, wandering about, etc. We're aware of South Street and the Mutter Museum and that's about it.

Thanks for your help!

What I'm writing lately

<div>I started a blog for my dance thoughts, located here:

http://right-and-kind.blogspot.com/

The name comes from when I was thinking of starting a Church of Craft chapter. I was pondering what I would want to put before my Reverend name, and decided I'd be The Right and Kind Reverend Amy (last name here).

Don't expect too deep of thoughts. Also, I may rant about things that may offend people's delicate artistic sensibilities. I'm up for debate about most topics, so feel free to join in. I may also repost some things I've written for my other journal, if they are neutral (i.e. not too ranty) enough to go up on a blog and not cause me a world of annoying comment management. </div>
