about me
Earthling in search of others. Work too much; paddle, run, hike and camp as much as I can. I like being in big cities for a few days, but would rather spend a week or two in the wilderness with friends and enthusiasts.
I am driven by goals and am usually looking for new ones, even before I am ready to act on them.

Well, a few weeks back we celebrated 28 blissful years of matrimony. Since our son is home for his last couple weekends before starting his junior year of college, we chose to spend several weekend days fly-fishing - his favorite activity. We even took a long weekend trip to the Idaho panhandle and backpacked in to a remote trout stream. We each had some of the best fishing of our lives - catching and releasing dozens of 12" to 16" cutthroat trout.

Saturday, we traveled west on highway 12 for a short hike on Kloochman Rock. We had never tried to climb Kloochman Rock, but decided we should try it. Saturday it was a sunny and in the 70's F, so we would have a good day for exploration. We also guessed it wasn't going to be a busy trail and took along our yellow lab, Cider.

Traveled up to Tofino, BC for three days in mid April. Great opportunity to test my fears and try to overcome the idea of facing 6 foot waves in a mere kayak. Even my hand-made baidarka held up to the stress!

This has been a great year for viewing hawks, falcons, owls and even a bald eagle from our yard, especially this fall and winter. These include the ones in the photo (marsh hawk, great horned owl, bald eagle, red-tailed hawk and kestrel). One night, I stood in the cold while three great horned owls hooted loudly as I watched them all in the dim star light.
