What has Skott been up to?
Civil Liberty
Mon, March 10, 2008 - 6:05 PMI wear a pentagram with a yggdrassil around my neck I have done so for quite some time. Recently I have taken a new position at the company that I work for. For as long as I have worked for the company, I have worn pagan jewlery and it was never an issue. Now, in my new position, my supervisor's boss asked that I not wear it at work. I was taken off guard. I did not expect to hear this, as the jewelery in question has been permitted all along. What makes the matter worse, is that many people wear a crosses and crucifix and this is permitted. My civil rights have been violated and I am not going to sit down and be persecuted.

Thats just wrong. But a bit of advice. Before challenging you should contact your local ACLU & any local Pagan groups that deal with Civil Rights & you may want to contact the Lady Liberty League at www.circlesanctuary.org/liberty. Get all the support and advice you can before challenging your job. If they think they are going to get bad PR they may fold on the issue and you will have won hopefully with your job intact.

As it turned out, I had a meeting with my supervisor's boss to discuss the situation. I confronted her, asking why I was singled out and my religious symbol was welcome. I further cautioned her, that it frankly was a violation of my civil liberty. She responed that her original descision was a knee jerk reaction and that she was going back on her pronouncement. I got clearance to display my religious symbol, and the whole thing has gone away. A small victory for pagan rights.
