Women Media Activists Assassinated In Oaxaca!

April 7th, 2008. Oaxaca, Mexico. PLEASE REPOST! Two indigenous triqui women who worked at the community radio station La Voz que Rompe el Silencio (The Voice that Breaks the Silence), in the autonomous municipality of San Juan Copala (Mixteca region), were shot and murdered while on their way to Oaxaca city to participate in the State Forum for the Defense of the Rights of the Peoples of Oaxaca. Three other people were injured. According to the State Attorney General, the victims are Teresa Bautista Merino (24 years old) and Felícitas Martínez Sánchez (20 years old). Francisco Vásquez Martínez (30 years old), his wife Cristina Martínez Flores (22 years old), and their son Jaciel Vásquez Martínez (three years old) were also injured in the attack. According to prelimary reports, the women had left the station, which is part of the Network of Indigenous Community Radio Stations of the Southeast (Red de Radios Comunitarias Indígenas del Sureste), around 1:00 PM. They were travelling in a truck on their way to Oax aca city, but were ambushed on the outskirts of the community Llano Juarez. The two community radio activists were supposed to coordinate the working group for Community and Alternative Communication: Community Radio, Video, Press, and Internet, at the State Forum for the Defense of the Rights of the People of Oaxaca, which was to begin the today (Wednesday) in the auditorium of Seccion 22 of the teachers union in Oaxaca. The Center for Community Support Working Together (CACTUS as the spanish acronym) released a communique denouncing the murders and demanding that the state authorities investigate and punish those responsible for the crime. The state attorney general said that 20 bullet shells, caliber 7. 62, were found at the site of the murders, along with other arms including an AK-47. People are encouraged to contact their local embassies and consulates (or to organize demonstrations at their local embassies and consulates) to express their condemnation of this paramilitary repression of indigenous women and community media projects.

The Hammerskins, then known as the Confederate Hammerskins, began life in 1997 as a Dallas, TX gang specializing in violence against Jewish people and people of color, sexual minorities, as well as activists. The Hammerskin Nation—a masthead for Hammerskin racist skinhead crews—has since gone national, and later international, with their bigoted agenda. The upcoming Hammerskin Nation event in Oregon was planned in conjunction with Volksfront, a Portland-led white supremacist group with links to Kenneth Mieske and Kyle Brewster, two of the killers of Ethiopian immigrant Mulugeta Seraw in a 1988 racially charged crime. Volksfront’s short-lived musical division “Upfront Records” released a benefit CD for Mieske in 2002, and Brewster had his parole revoked last year after his association with Volksfront was revealed on the internet. The October Hammerskin Nation gathering is currently being openly advertised on such Hitler-admiring websites as stormfront.org A coalition of Northwest anti-racists has coordinated three days of community responses to the Hammerskin gathering. On Saturday, September 29, the weekend before “Hammerfest 2007,” the events include: Anti-Fascist Awareness Event & Training 3 PM, September 29 at Room 236, Smith Memorial Center, Portland State University Organizers from the Seattle-based “If You Don’t, They Will” grouping will discuss white supremacist organizing in youth subcultures and in music, as well as ideas for countering them. This event is free and open to the public. Musicians United Against Racism show 8PM, September 29 at The Recyclery, 1417 SE 9th & Madison Portland hip-hop artists Mic Crenshaw and Santotzin, breakdancers, a reggae DJ, and punk rock performers will offer cultural responses to fascism from 8PM onwards this evening. In addition, the last event at the Red & Black Café’s current location (2138 SE Division)—this Wednesday, September 26—has been designated as a further night of “Rock Against Racism.” Stop by for performances by the “pirate-punks” of Rum Rebellion, acoustic sounds by The Taxpayers, as well as other anti-racist acts. Smash fascist, Hammerskins gathering in Portland Oct. 6-8 I have been hearing rumors about a white power gathering happening soon and did some poking around. Currently there is no exact location given but information given through their website is Oct. 6-8 in Portland, OR with a group of speakers and bands. Spread the word! Please forward and lets organize response to this. Two of my friends were recently attacked for unknown reasons by a group of guys, that totally brained my good friend with skateboards, putting him in the hospital for 2 weeks. Luckily a biker followed one of them, he was arrested and now in jail. He had a record of white power activity, leading to that. The attack was racially motivated. The 3 other attackers are still out there in the shadows. These scumbags like to now dress so they blend in(in my friends case well dressed skaters), and are opportunists so look out for your friends. In solidarity, (Anonymous)

Nazi gathering in Sept?

Does anyone know anything about a nazi gathering in Portland September? This would be very ballsy as they haven't been able to do that since their homes/businesses got torched and their protests got the shit kicked out of them in the early 90s. Since then they've been banished to the 'burbs. They need to remember that they can't do that here.
