My facial expression really doesn't express how much I enjoyed sharing the same stage with Fat Chance in San Francisco last month for the first of what I hope will be many, many Devotion shows to come. Mark from Helm was actually on the stage with me and Deanna during this piece and just the fact that he actually moved back to allow my skirt to get a full spin in one of our moves was so surreal. It was also really cool to see Helm rockin' it while we were dancing that first weekend of the show. I miss SF!

Launch days were great at both the Vestavia and Pelham Gold's Gyms over the last weekend. Pelham totally rocked at BodyJam Launch Thursday night, complete with spotlights, smoke machines, and smoothie shots! We also had a good turnout Saturday for BodyFlow at both Vestavia and Pelham. And the real troopers came out again on Sunday for a BodyJam replay followed by the new BodyPump release. A fun four day end of week party!

At long last I have received my BodyPump video assessment for final certification and I am happy to say I have received not only a Pass but a Distinction! Huge in the Les Mills world of fitness and a goal I've had since training for BodyFlow two years ago. I guess that German/Irish ability to throw up some heavy weight and shout with a smile has finally paid off. It also helps to have a super 5:30 am class of folks that are happy to be up lifting, shouting, and smiling with you on a Friday! I love my Pelham early morning BodyPumpers!

While not as fast as this little kitty I did manage to beat my previous time in the Mercedes 1/2 Marathon this past Sunday. I finished in 1:58:22, averaging about a 9:03 mile, and came in 39th in my age group (out of 256). Not bad considering my last attempt in this race in 2004 resulted in a finish at 2:05:26 and an age group rank of 68 out of 187.
The weather was great! Really appreciated the drum line (I think from Phillips High School?) positioned at the top at the climb to complete mile 6. I actually felt those drums transport me up the long, long, long climb. My hamstrings are almost over it.

So after lifting pounds and pounds of bars and plates, running, jumping, shouting, leaping, and generally having a great time, I've passed the first two modules of BodyPump training! I was so lucky in that the first track I was assigned was "Faster Kill Pussycat!" I love that song and video! Next was Christina's "Ain't No Other Man"-can't relate to it personally but already bellydanced to that one! I had one of the best trainers ever- another bellydancer even, Brooke Norris of Ft Worth, Texas. She is awesome! Anyone interested in Les Mills certification in Pump or Jam should avidly seek a training under her instruction; you'll actually miss her NOT yelling at you to lift more weight- I do.
Just one more module to go!

Hi all,
Just a little note to let you know that October4 is World Animal Day! In celebration of this special day, YogaFit is donating all merchandise proceeds to animal welfare organizations. For those of you unfamiliar with YogaFit, it is not only a leading organization in teacher trainings for yoga instructors but a company adamantly concerned and supportive of animal protection. Beth Shaw is the founder of this program and like our Carolena, a huge friend of our animal friends in word and deed. So if you are looking for some yoga attire, music, props, books, etc., check out the YogaFit website at www.yogafit.com on October 4 and order knowing that our furry and feathered friends are also benefitting from your purchase.

Black Cat Month Begins!

While every day of the year is a fine time to celebrate the cat, October brings special attention to the cat, namely the ebony variety. I have two such felines that fit this hue and I must say that they are looking good! The crispness in the air and the earlier sunsets seem to suit them well as their coats are lustrous and their dispositions have resulted in an increased need for cuddling in the cool evenings. No personal offense to my lovely tuxedo, Salem and torti, Serena, handsome and gorgeous are they as well. But Miss Amelia and Sir Malcolm are simply beaming; perhaps they know this is their month and are just waiting to get a little "spook" going by crossing a path or two. But no paths will they cross other than mine as this month can also present a danger to this particular type of feline by those less educated and less loving of the Moor. So a note to all my friends with their own special family members...embrace, applaud, and give your felines the adoration and praise due them at this time as well as during the rest of the year as a whole...and don't leave out the others, it's not their fault that they have been painted with alternative hues and color combinations. But please be aware that some members of our planet have not been enlightened...so keep those kitties safe. And worth a mention...if you do decide to decorate your little ones for the occasion (as if they really needed decoration) please choose a respectable costume, something regal, intelligent, or mystically fitting...i.e. no freakin' pumpkin outfits please. But if you must dress something as a gourd, save that outfit for the two -legged creatures too young to express such distaste for such an ensemble.
Happy Black Cat Month to you all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
