I had a discussion last night with a 79 year old lady in Ontario, OR, about Paul Dale, and she described him as canny. Smart, she said, was not an adequate word, and she wasn't really happy with canny either, but I liked it. Canny brings to mind a mystical ability to 'ken' what needs to be known, an ability to touch on the deeper knowledge of the heart.
