Arabian Night's Show

Faten Salama's last dance performance April 10.

We have just NOW been informed that this will be the last performances of world renowned, very energetic Faten Salama! www.fatensalama.info/2009/about.html
While it's disheartening to learn this, we are excited that one of her performances will be with the world renowned Amir Thaleb www.amirthaleb.com/
We are honored that this will take place at Casablanca on King St in Alexandria, VA www.bellydanceforlife.com/amirt...p.html

I'm certainly excited that I will get to see this myself and doing my best to get the word out to all who may be interested since this is short notice. If you know anyone who would be interested in thi news about Faten Salama, please help me get the word out to them by forwarding this announcement. Thanks.

Music is the life of the Soul!

"Music is the life of the soul. It heals the ailing listener" from the song Ghanili shwaya shwaya by Um Kalthoum
Ghanili Swhaya Shwaya means "Sing to me a little alittle" or "Sing to me just a little"

Check out the original version from an old movie
www.youtube.com/watch

Here is a modern rendition of part of the song:
www.youtube.com/watch

My mission is to connect with friends locally and around the world and to share my love and understanding of classical Egyptian music. In particular to promote the great music of Abdel Halim Hafez, Um Kalthoum, Farid El Atrache and Mohammed Abdel Wahab. I am confident that as more people listen to the new instrumental renditions of these songs, they will become exceedingly popular in the United States.

I have to admit that my desire to translate and post the classic Egyptian songs is not all altruistic. I've been listening to these songs all my life and only now as I labor with love to translate them word for word do I really appreciate the work that went into their composition. I am humbled by the difficulty of tranlating 'non-tranlatable' Egyptian expressions and by losing the beauty of complex rhyme that is appreciated only when auditioned in it's original form. I trust that as the artists in our community continue to study and appreciate these masterpieces, they will continue to be incorporated into the Eastern Dances (Raks Sharki) here in the United Sates.
