about me
I enjoy doing things. All sorts of different things.
I love to be outside, either in my lovely, slightly wild garden, or wandering around the village and surrounding countryside. In the summer months much of my work is outside too, so I get a lot of fresh air. I'm completely addicted to live theatre and devote a lot of my time to The Loft Theatre in Leamington Spa (www.loft-theatre.co.uk). I was taken to see a pantomime when I was quite small, and I loved it and I've been hooked ever since. I act when I can get a part, I stage manage, operate lights and just to ensure life is really full, I'm the vice chair of the theatre now, having been treasurer for 4 years. So there is rarely a day goes by when I'm not required to make some decision or other and the responsibility is not inconsiderable. I love anything old, so old buildings and their care is a priority for me. I live in a lovely old house that was built at some point before 1742, but not sure quite when. Long and thin, we think it was 3 little tiny cottages for estate workers at one time. I couldn't find a builder prepared to repair it sympathetically with traditional materials and methods (much better for the building than anything modern which tends to create damp) so I learned to do it all myself. I also like pottering about fixing up old furniture and selling it on.

Re: .:..: Spinning into stalls :..:.
(in Hooping Videos)
That's a very pretty video. I love to stall the hoop but I find it hard to keep going fast enough to hold it for long. You make it look easy. The music is great. Perfect for the job.
Re: May Play
(in Hooping Videos)
What a good idea to string together various clips so that we got costume changes!
I loved the spinning in the dark skirt and the misty early morning light. Your hooping looks relaxed and fun and the cat is perfect. He saunters in and does it ... read more discussion post on Wed, May 14, 2008 - 1:41 PM
Re: importance of hooping both directions?
(in Hula Hooping)
This is something very close to me at the moment because I'm having problems with my left hip. Evidently my pelvis is out of line. I went to the Chiropractor yesterday to be straightened up, but then hooped a bit later and feel that it's gone ou...

Re: living room hooping
(in Hooping Videos)
This is not a first hooping video in anything other than you have just decided to post it. You are a very accomplished hooper. There are some great moves in them, very well executed. And your dance style is very languid and fluid.
Well don... read more discussion post on Tue, May 13, 2008 - 5:01 AM
Re: Shoulder Duck-outs - How important is a square shoulder?
(in The Hoopers' Journal)
Thanks for all this wonderful advice. I love Silverstar's way of describing things such as touch your ear to your shoulder because I really remember that sort of description. It was her advise to feel as if I were being poked in the chest and ba...

Unrepeatable, didn't breath, had no idea what to do next until it fell off, but I got my head out and the hoop rotated twice round my shoulder before it fell to the floor. I used my biggest 20mm hoop and miraculously it was in my second current! So now I know it is possible even with my sloping shoulders. That's cheered me up no end.
Well, there probably won't be much hooping this week because of the play. We opened tonight with Once A Catholic in Leamington Spa. I'm doing the duel roll of stage managing the production whilst also being in it. Not easy and has caused me a few sleepless nights. As far as I know no one has ever tried to do it before at this theatre. But I'm head of stage management and couldn't find anyone to work on the show so ended up having to do it even though I was cast already.

Hardly time for anything with rehearsals coming to a head now for opening night next week. But I don't have to go to the theatre this evening. Instead I went up to the village hall and hooped for a bit. It was a good session all round, but I really got into speed hooping on the hips and thighs to Simple Minds and it was a wonderful feeling. To be at one with the music, the hoop and myself all at the same time.

I haven't blogged for a while. But then I've been pretty busy. Hardly any time to do anything properly it seems. But I had some good news last week and I wanted to share it with you, just in case anyone else ever has the same problem and thinks it can't be fixed.

My hair started to fall out in large quantities at some point in the autumn. I'm not really sure when, I just became aware that there was loads of it floating in the bath and blocking the plug. I have thick hair, so it didn't... read more
I've booked and paid for my place on HoopGirl's teacher training level 1 course at the end of July in Nuneaton. I am so pleased that I've been able to find the money to do it. I wasn't sure I would be able to, but I have! I will have been hooping a year by then. I am really looking forward to it.

I recently watched the videos that Revolva and Jewels posted of them spinning with hoops like dervishes. I have realised that I'm doing more and more of that without noticing. I think it has... read more
