Grinn is the definition of all that is good. He's sweet, wicked, funny, smart, gorgeous, has a ton of integrity and bushels full of kindness that he shares freely with all he meets.
He is my compatriot in Cheshire Cat smiles and in dirty-old-person-ness, and I appreciate getting to know him better so much more than I can fully express. Hooray for friendship and hooray for years of laughter to come!

moments caught in time still linger in my mind
and in one of these such moments, grinn made such an intense impression that it has taken me until now to even begin to formulate words by which to honor him with.
grinn is an amazing man... from welcoming me as kin at a moments introduction, to making my arms feel less bare with made on-playa cuffs, to astonishing me with his capacity for respect, honesty, and loyalty.
he will forever remain in my mind and in my heart and i only hope that our friendship will continue to grow both on and off playa.

So, last weekend was Death Valley with the Dogs. Had a great time as always. This was the first time for my friend John and for my Son Devon. We got to visit the dangeresque and sekrit pictograph cave. It was pretty amazing. A great hike there, too. Shadow did much recon to find these caves.
We also visited Titus Canyon which was really amazing. (Ran into a burner at the exit of the canyon. A girl spinning poi at sunset on the alluvial fan. Beautiful.) Then we camped at our dange...

Just got back from Yosemite. Wow, what a trip! We had a lot of fun. And, for the first time, I really felt like Devon was "in to" climbing. We did a hike to Vernal falls and he was climbing everything in sight. Then we went and bouldered today a bit. He seems to be really taking to it. I think I want us to do that a bit more before he goes.
Yes, he's going. I'll write more about that later.
But for now, I'm just so happy that my son likes to climb!! Makes a father proud! :)

So, at Bad Kitty's request, I'll talk a moment about Hooters.
On our way back, As the sun was setting, Noctourn made it plain that he really wanted a beer. I also noticed that my running lights weren't happening on the jeep. This is frowned upon by the CHP, I understand. So we saw a place with a gas station AND a place to get a beer: Hooters.
When we stopped, I checked my fuse panel and saw one of my blade fuses was MELTED. Not blown, but melted. This struck a familiar chord in my ...

about me
"A pessimist is right oftener than an optimist. But an optimist has more fun." -Heinlein
I like that quote, cause I kinda try to live that way. I may not always be right, and I may not always be happy. But more often than not, I'm having fun trying to be right and happy.
I've been diving a lot with my buddies Spike and Kyle. One of the things that I love about Diving is that I'm learning a lot about myself. When you're in a situation where you must do everything right (or at least MOSTLY right) to survive, there's less slack. You must be excellent, or you'll die. I enjoy being held to a higher standard. That's part of what I love about rock climbing as well as hiking and camping in the desert. You really can't fuck up too much. It's hard, so you must take special care to keep yourself alive.
I find that this concept is really true in all of life. But when we fuck up in the "normal" life, it just tends to take longer for the consequences of our foolishness to show. In diving, climbing and the desert, the consequences of your foolishness are nearly immediate. Therefore, you must stay on your toes.
Skydiving is the same way. Some people ask why I'd want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane. My answer is, "Because it's fun. And I know how to do it and live."
