This is a hidden paradise of tranquility! Its openness and simple beauty has kept me here for hours ... stretching, praying, sweating, dancing, slowing down and lighting a candle.

Bhangra Dance Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30 pm

Bhangra is an upbeat, energetic, and vibrant folk dance from the North India, Punjab Region. Traditionally done to celebrate the harvest, Bhangra is seen at all festive occasions celebrated in India. It’s perhaps one of the most vigorous forms of South Asian Dances, but also the most free-spirited, down-to-earth and fun. The class will make you shake your hips, move your arms, stomp your feet and give you a great cardio workout by indulging your dancing spirits in a non-competitive and positive environment.
Vicki Virk was born and raised in Punjab, India, where bhangra originated. She has been dancing to bhangra all of her life. Though she went to law school and became an attorney, her passion and love for dance inspired her on a journey to pursue her real calling. Together with best friend Suman Raj, she co-founded Dholrhythms, an organization dedicated to promoting the cultural and artistic arts of India by way of teaching and performing the folk dances of Punjab, Bhangra and Giddha.
In addition to teaching all the classes, Vicki also leads the Dholrhythms dance troupe, a multiethnic group of women, each of which began as a student in Dholrhythms’ classes.
Since its inception, Dholrhythms has grown into a boundless, undefined, and unique platform for people of diverse backgrounds to come together, learn something new, express themselves freely, and dance. For more info on Vicki Virk or Bhangra, visit www.dholrhythms.com or www.nonstopbhangra.com
