Hey y'all from Lowe's Motor Speedway!!
We (hubby & I) went w/a friend & walked around the track at LMS during a non-race weekend. They were resurfacing the track & putting up the SAFR (sp?) barriers that year--2006. As we walked around the track by Turn 2, a construction guy was putting his tools & such in the back of his white pickup on the low inside part of the track. He sees us & says howdy. We chat a bit, & he asks if we wanted a piece of the old track. My friend & I immedately said YES!!! The guy pulled a pickax out of his truck & hacked out a piece. He walked up to us & that's when I realized just HOW STEEP the grade is! He passed it to us thru the fencing & my friend breaks the piece in 2 for himself & us. We of course thanked the guy profusely & we all go about our business--we were walking round the track. The pic is after we'd done the whole walk around the track--about 1.5 miles. I was waving to my hubby w/an attitude of "HI MOM!" I intend to take & put the piece of the track in a plastic case like they use for special matchbox cars & display it. For now, it sits on a shelf in the living room in a baggie w/the Place, date & description. Funny how memories get made!
