about me
I have many interests and am still looking for what I want to do when I grow up. I am easy going and can cheerfully make the best of just about any situation without resentment or drama. I love connections and am the type who can't pass someone I care about without a touch --a pat, a stroke or a smile. (or hey! depending on the moment, the person and the relationship, a hug, a kiss, a cuddle...)

I like to throw myself whole heartedly into interests and projects. I have been an active volunteer for over 30 years, and am drawn to helping others. I am a Unitarian. Unitarianism is more of an intellectual exercise than a religion, since it is creedless. I waver between atheist and agnostic, though I also see the spiritual in life itself.

I notice the beauty of the world around me and will get distracted by a sunset, low-lying fog and special moments between people.

I've been a very involved parent, and though my children are now grown up, family means a lot to me.

I'm creative and unconventional and like to think outside the box.

I grew up in a counter-culture of artists in the Monterey Peninsula of California --though I now consider myself a Canadian --have lived here since 1969 and became a citizen in 1975. --I really don't like to relate myself to too much to what side of that artificial line on the earth I'm on... (politics aside!) Canadian? American? (or is that United Statsian?) Humanian?

My unconventional childhood has at times made me feel a kind of culture shock, even now --but I would not change it for the world. The culture of eccentric, artistic, intellectual bohemians, rich with creative inspiration and supportive community was a wonderful world in which to grow up.

I've written and illustrated a few children's books, and edited a newsletter for Unitarian educators. I have recently illustrated several Unitarian curricula.

I read a lot and rarely watch television, though I'd happily join someone in watching a good movie. I love books, enjoy browsing in libraries and bookstores (new and used books) and have a beloved collection of children's books. I enjoy reading aloud and read to my own children even into their teens. In fact, I find it romantic to share reading a book aloud with someone special... (be still my heart!)

I love working with children, and have done so in various capacities over the years. I recently started an educational enrichment centre for homeschoolers. I believe that children are natural learners and thrive on freedom in an inspiring environment. In Wildwood (my centre), I provide that inspiring environment and see my role as facilitator, helping to guide children's explorations and encouraging them to find their passions.

A sense of humour and the ability to see the absurd in life is important to me. This does not mean laughing at others' pain --but it does mean having the ability to relax and make the most of potentially stressful moments --like traffic jams or dealing with life's frequent little glitches. That's life --and meanwhile, we can enjoy the moment.
