TV Cured My Body Issues

Ok, what woman hasn't fretted over at least one body part since adolescence, huh? My woes have always been my stomach and my short stance. No matter how much excercise I've done, or how careful I've been with my diet, the body issues always come up! Logically I can look at myself and know that I am fit and healthy, but that part of my mind that holds on to bad experiences from years ago stll influences my confidence! But not anymore.

I started watching "What Not To Wear" on TLC about 3 months ago. At first it was more like watching a train wreck. "Oh my god, they're so mean to her....What's wrong with that shirt?...Oh--they have a good point." I couldn't stop watching. Then I started to notice how absolutely amazingly transformed all of their guests would become. And the great thing is that all of the women are all different sizes, and the one thing they all have in common is that they all look so thin after their shopping spree.

Well, after 3 months of watching this show EVERY DAY (yes i get a bit obsessive) I have come to realize that most people I see on the street who look so model fabulous don't really have perfect bodies, they're just smart dressers! Seeing everyday people in this way has totally transformed the way I look at myself. By taking these "rules" from the show and applying them to my own clothes, I have come to see that my body is perfect just the way it is. With the right fit, no one else seems to think I have a stomach. So, what I am concluding is that those women who look so sharp and perfect out in Brentwood actually just know how to cover up their so called flaws. They probably learned all of this by actually paying stylists. And to think I got it for free by watching this crazy little show.

You just might be my "similarity sister"!
I have the same stomach issue! :) It's definitely been my "most hated" body part, and I, too, have come to learn that baggy sweatshirts/t-shirts are NOT the answer! I'm 38 years old and I finally figured out about two years ago that the lower-waisted jeans (NOT the ultra lows, but just mid-rise) are not just for the 20-somethings with flat stomachs. Thank you, Oprah! And thank you to the British ladies from "What Not to Wear"! I could not have come this far without you!

I could go on and on about my own journey, but that would be a blog entry instead of a "comment" on a blog! I am in total agreement with what you said!

Bravo, Sister! It's so liberating to know how to hide a stomach. I'm guessing you probably don't even have much of a stomach, b/c of all that hula hooping. But then again, I don't really have one either, and I'm still insecure about it! But not anymore thanks to this TV show. Who knew?

o yeah, one more thing: death to the skinny pants!!! They do nothing for most women's figures!

Well, the tummy's still there, but it's getting better thanks to the hoopin' and my higher self-esteem. I love myself just the way I am, curves and all!

Yes, death to the skinny pants! And long live the gauchos! :)
