My pet Pigeon

On my way to work early this morning at 7am I was walking down the tiny narrow iron steps from my third floor city apartment only to discover my path blocked. I found a pigeon standing blatantly in my way-Well I said, I'll show you! And I stepped over him and went to work and class. At 6pm I walk back up the stairs only to find the pigeon on the exact same step as I had found him hours before. I bent down to notice as he tried to flap his wing (I have a feeling it was a he) -he couldnt fly but could only walk. Well from there on a went to my apartment deliberating over what to do. I couldnt just leave him out there to starve to death-to walk over his frail limp body one morning on my way to work-I would definatley not be able to sleep at night. Well I called all the local animal controls that simply couldnt see the value in saving the equivalent to them as a "rat with wings" as far as the city goes. I mean if its not cute and fluffy then it doesnt deserve to be saved-its "natural selection". Well not to me-I mean natural selection wasnt accounting for idiots that enjoy injuring animals caught anaware (ends up someone musta thought it woulda been fun to step on him). Anyways I dig throught the trash cans at night with the hobos and find a plastic storage tub and some blankets I can immediately put him in. No I do not like digging in the trash it was raining hard and I had no time to go to target. So I bring him inside much to my cats dismay-they took to him as much as they took to their first baths. I chop up some peanuts for him and give him some water. Just then I recieve a call from someone that ends up being a bird rehabilatator-who does animal rescues-seems someone gave her my number. And I'm glad they did because tomarrow Pete "my pigeon" is going to get his wing all fixed up -and live with other gimpy pigeons that can relate to his sad circumstances. I've grown attached to Pete already and I will be sad to see him go. Luckily I am allowed visits (=.

you have a big heart! i'm glad you saved pete, and that he'll have a home with the other gimp pigeons. when i was little, we saved every injured animal we came across.. i had a pet possum for a little while even.... i think its our responsibility... i mean we get to be the top of the food chain, but i think that gives us great responsibilities as well.... happy little pete!

Natural selection only applies to stupid parents and their rotten kids. Sweet birds and other animals deserve our care because we're the idiots who selfishly and thoughtlessly take everything from them. I'm glad you took care of him! Thank you!!!!!!!
