My Testimonials

June 10, 2009
Deb is one of the few people that commands my total respect on this network - not by dint of any particular history, not because I agree with 100% of what she relates, nor because she's been far more respectable than the majority of us, in general, nor has she ever kissed my ass - but she simply commands my total respect.

I don't ignore those kinds of commands unless they're tendered with words. Deb tenders the command with something else. I guess I'll call it "an oblique communication of total respect".

I've never seen her disrespect anyone, or assume something, or mistake direct language for disrespect. She seems to have that rare ability to understand what is being shared, and she seems to value it. That's rare. We're all better for having had access to this example.

My Blog

Rest in Peace: today is the day we honour those veterans who gave their lives that we may live in peace and freedom.

In my life, I've lost two:

This is the 30th anniversary of burying my fiance when I was 19. He was a soldier and he died in a military training accident in Germany in 1979. I was young and had just confirmed that I was pregnant, David was due back the next week to hear that news. Instead he came home in a closed, lead-lined box draped in a Canadian flag.

Tonight I'm meeting up with some friends in Alameda so I had to get online to find the place. It's called La Pinata Restaurant at 1440 Park St., Alameda and we'll be there around 7:30 PM. My friend Cross Sydthe has dialysis on Friday and he'll be done around 7 so we're going to meet there at 7:30.

If anyone else is in the Bay area and wants to meet, feel free to drop in, the more the merrier.

I'll write later about all wonderful events of the burn. It was very healing. And I hope many ... read more

How to remember Caleb Schaber this year at the burn? Playa time being what it is, pick the one you can fit in to your schedule or that helps you to say goodbye:

• Bring a “found item” like a piece of wood that he might have painted on to add to the on-playa Outsider Art sculpture that we are creating. If you have one of Caleb’s paintings, photocopy and bring that to put on the sculpture. Bring that email that haunts you still. Heck, Caleb once created a piece of art from a pizza box! There... read more

Caleb chose to leave this world on Friday, April 17th at about 2:15AM. I wish he hadn't made that choice.

This song was one of his recent favourites and somehow playing it is giving me some comfort.

Caleb liked this version: www.youtube.com/watch

Created by Portugal. The Man

I don't know how we were created
But I know we all die

Go pick up all your tools and build a roof
I'll pick up all mine and build one too

I just do as I do
That's all I can do

We've had a busy few days in Canada while you folks were having your turkey. Actually we had a bit of a revolution. Maybe you've heard that we elected a minority neo-con government on October 14 then watched with envy as you folks chose hope on November 4.

Well, we might have fixed that little problem. It's taken four days but...

About 20 minutes ago, the news came across the wires that our three parties on the left have united in a coalition and will be putting forth a motion of non-co... read more

My Recent Activity

Re: Towards an Alternative to Globalization (in RADICAL POLITICS) I've read it. I'm concerned about the meaning of a couple of sections so I'm going to stew it for a bit before commenting fully.

International Survivors of Suicide Day (in Radical Life Institute) Yesterday, I attended a special day for Survivors of Suicide. We watched a video created by survivors and professionals. The video was shown at the same time in over 30 countries. There were discussions among those in attendance. We cried and we l... read more

Re: perception is a funny thing (in Radical Life Institute) Thanks for sharing what you are going through, Mindfunk. It's hard to hear this stuff because I do really feel helpless. But I do know that listening here and being here to hear what is going on must provide some comfort to you - a place where you... read more
