And the Self that transcends the living.
Nothing exists that is not me.

Even though in time
I might enumerate the atoms of this universe,
My glory will never be enumerated
For it manifests through countless universes.

Wherever you find power, beauty or fame,
Grandeur, humility or renunciation,
Pleasure, wealth or strength,
Tolerance or spiritual knowledge:
Know these to be a manifestation
Of myself.

Now, Uddhava, I have told you
Of the forms that you may find me in.
Understand, dear friend, these are the forms
Perceived by the mind
According to its refinement.

Control your speech and
Discipline your mind.
Learn to master your vitality.
Regulate your senses
And refine your intellect.
By so doing
You will never again
Go through the cycle of birth, death and rebirth.

To the renunciate
Who has not controlled speech and mind
Through the power of will,
All austerities, vows and charitable works
Will become as nothing-
Just as water seeps away
From an unfired pot,
Leaving the vessel empty.

Let your awareness be fixed on me.
Surrender mind, speech and prana to me.
Then you will attain your goal.

from Thyagaraja's Ragasudharasa

O Mind! Drink and revel in the ambrosia of melody; it gives one the fruit of all sacrifices and contemplation, renunciation as well as enjoyment; Thyagaraja knows that they who are proficient in sound, the mystic syllable OM, and the music notes-which are all of the form of the Lord Himself- are liberated souls.

from Thyagaraja's Sangitajnanamu

O Mind! The knowledge of the science and art of music bestows on a person the bliss of oneness with the Supreme Being. Music such as is accompanied by the blissful oceanlike stories of the Lord which are the essence of Love and all the other sentiments blesses a person with oneness with the Lord. Music such as that cultivated by the discerning Thyagaraja bestows on a person affection (for fellow beings), devotion (to God), attachment to good men, the Lord's Grace, austere life, mental concentration, fame and wealth.

from Sharngadeva's Sangitaratnakara

We adore that Supreme Being of the form of sound (Nada-Brahman) which is the one bliss without a second, and the light of consciousness in all beings that has manifested itself in the form of the universe. By the adoration of sound (nada) are also adored Gods, Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva, for they are the embodiments of sound.

from Narada Bhakti Sutra

Now then, we shall expound devotion. Devotion consists of supreme love for God. It also consists of immortality. On obtaining that, man has achieved everything, he becomes immortal, he is completely satisfied. Having got it, he desires nothing else, he grieves not, he hates nothing, he delights not in anything else, he strives for nothing; having realized which, man becomes as if intoxicated, and benumbed; he delights in his own intrinsic bliss.
Devotion is not like ordinary passion, as it is the suppression of all other preoccupations. This suppression of preoccupations is the giving up of the activities of the world as well as those (namely, the rituals) ordained by the Vedas.
Devotion is complete and exclusive absorption in God and indifference to things opposed to Him. Completeness or exclusiveness of devotion to Him means abandoning of anything else or anybody else as one's prop and support. And indifference to things opposed to Him means the doing and observance of only those things in the world or the Vedas which are conducive to devotion towards Him.

Bhartrhari

An old dog, thin and purblind, lame and deaf,
docked of tail and famished, a potsherd round his neck,
with stinking mange and a body full of worms,
will still go running for a bitch. You see
how love will strike a creature when he's down.

Bhartrhari collection

So long can he stay on the road of virtue,
so long is a man the master of his senses
and feels shame and keeps good manners:
as graceful women do not pierce his heart
with their arrow glances, feathered with black lashes,
shot from the drawn eyebrow sidelong past the ear.

Vallana

Blessed is the wise man who clearly knows
the ways of all the universe
and happy likewise is the fool
who never doubts his wisdom.
But let a man not fall between
to suffer doubts of right and wrong
that rise from the workings of a mind that's sown
with just a bit of knowledge.

Only fools and not the wise
love what they cannot have.
Who but a child seeks to grasp
the moon as it shines in water?

Kaviraja

A miser though he lives
gives no more than the dead.
The dead in fact do better:
at least they fatten crows.
