A passionate enthusiast of world barefoot dance forms focusing on the movements and rhythms rooted in the Middle East, I am an open, generous and dynamic performer, researcher, choreographer and instructor based in Anchorage Alaska.

An active performer, I have recently been featured as a soloist or part of a troupe in such diverse projects as the Anchorage Concert Association's Opening Night Gala for Cirque Dreams, UAA's Dance Together Alaska Festival, Anchorage Downtown Partnership's Saturday Concert and Cultural Performance Series and New Year’s Eve Fire and Ice Celebration, Alaska's 50th Anniversary Gala and as a guest artist for the "Changing North: From Whales to Supercomputers" FREEZE Project.

I teach at the beautiful Yoga Inner Dance Studio in Anchorage. The next 12-week session of “Belly Dance 101” begins on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Postcard coupons for a $5 trial class are available at Woolies in the REI Mall, Alaska Dancer Emporium and at the Yoga Inner Dance Studio. Drop-ins and beginners are welcome. All ages, shapes and sizes can flourish in this ancient, athletic, artistic dance. Bare feet, clothes you can move in and a sense of humor preferred. Summer session begins June 3, 2009 and Autumn session begins September 2, 2009

For those who would like to continue their studies in my format beyond the basics, I offer "Belly Dance Unlimited" on Wednesday nights from 8:45-9:45 p.m. The format focus is a loose combination of ongoing technique, special topics and performance prep. Cost is $40/4 week month or $50/5 week month if paid monthly or $12 drop in. Dancers for Ciccia Bella student troupe are recruited from the Belly Dance Unlimited Class. An upcoming Intermediate-plus class titled "Off the Deep End with Melissa" will be offered shortly on Monday evenings with a new troupe being formed from the dancers in this class. Instructor invitation required.
