Chris Travis is originator of the Truehome Workshop on the Internet at www.ourtruehome.com, and the Chief Executive Officer of Nidiant Corporation. His is a student of environmental psychology, systems science and brain/environment studies. He is also the Managing Partner and lead residential designer for Sentient Architecture, LLC. at www.sentientarchitecture.com. He has served as a consultant, designer and builder of new homes, major residential remodeling, and historic commercial projects in Texas since 1975. He is an expert in historic design and the restoration of indigenous Texas historic structures. His first design award was a T. C. Jester award for excellence in historic design in the Houston Heights in the 1970’s. Sentient Architecture, LLC - formerly called Round Top Architecture - has offices in Round Top, Texas and Austin, Texas.
The general contracting firm Chris Travis founded - Round Top Companies, Inc. - is one of the premier high-end residential design-builders in Central Texas. For twenty-five years Mr. Travis designed and constructed residential projects ranging to well over $1,000,000 in scope. His firm was named Remodeler of the Year by the Greater Houston Builder’s Association in 1981. In 2002, Mr. Travis sold his building operations to his oldest son, Shiloh Travis, but the two men continue to work together on design/build projects in Austin and Central Texas.
Chris Travis’ projects have appeared in Builder magazine, Country Living, Cowboys and Indians, Houston Home and Garden, Home Companion, Sun Coast Magazine, and Texas Highways. His work was displayed in the PBS documentary, Digital Nation.
Mr. Travis is also the chief writer, editor and publisher of the regional humor and commentary newspaper, the Round Top Register, and in this regard has been the subject of articles in the New York Times, Editor and Publisher Magazine, and other national and regional publications. His atypical publication was called the “Prairie Home Companion of the Lone Star State” by the Arts at Large columnist of the New York Times, and the Register's website was named one of the Top Ten Media Websites in Texas by Texas Monthly. Chris is also a poet, the author Deadspace Poetry. Mr. Travis is the father of three children, has four grandchildren, and lives with his wife Cheryl in the small towns of Round Top, Texas and Cloudcroft, New Mexico.
