bummed about Tribal Fest ... other inspirations

<div>So here's my update for what's going on in my life right now.

First off, I'm seriously procrastinating on a 'character analysis' for my English class. 2 pages is all I have to do, and it's due tomorrow evening. I've already read the book and done the research on the author, I just have to make myself write it. Later.

I stayed home from Tribal Fest 8 this weekend for multiple reasons. My husband had the flu all week last week, and is still not quite back to normal. Thursday afternoon, my 2-year-old also had a fever (thankfully nothing else, just a touch of fever for a few days). Combined with my mom in the hospital and no real vehicle (except mom's offer to take hers - thanks mom!), and not really enough cash to do any shopping, and a few other things.... My family vetoed my trip. I'm going to go next year for sure tho - no matter what!

I tried today to convince Geoffrey that since I'm missing Tribal Fest, I get to go toKosmos Camp (in 2 weeks) instead - it's another big belly dancing event. That costs $400 not including gas to get there. He said no - big surprise. I'll be happy to start taking classes from Sarah again - once all the summer festivals and big performances are over and she starts another session! Maybe I can talk Geoffrey into going to the Blood Moon Regale in Sacramento with me this October....? Maybe?

I went to check out Chikoko's stuff today at their 'store' in the Crux art gallery, since I missed their fashion show on Friday night (see aforementioned reasons I couldn't go to Tribal Fest - same reasons). They had some really nice stuff. I spent far too much $$ - a muslin skirt, a Chikoko tank top, and some wrist cuffs for dancing - all of which I could make myself (well, not the tank). I chatted with the lady that owns Dreadful Kitty (you can catch her at the Saturday Morning Farmer's Market - I love her stuff!) for a bit about sewing and projects, etc. She gave me an extra book they had on sewing - an old Reader's Digest Guide. How sweet! The thing is HEAVY! I have a bunch of funky pants I picked up a while ago at Salvation Army to make various projects out of, such as some little rag dolls I promised Amy over at Baby's Boutique that I'd make to sell at her shop. As soon as final's week is over, I'm pulling my sewing machine out and getting some stuff whipped up. I've got to make some pantaloons to go under the Chikoko muslin skirt, anyway. It's cream, and kinda see-through-y, so it's just crying for some stripy cotton pantaloons with black or brown lace peeking out from underneath. Pair it all with a cute ruffled tank and some little heeled boots, and it'd be perfect! Of course, I'm not sure that I could ever actually wear something like that around town, but it'd be worth a try (and something I could DEFINITELY wear to the next Chikoko show!). I also have a pair of pants that are now, thankfully, far too big for me. I plan on chopping those up into two - count them, 2 - different pieces for bellydancing. A mini-skirt to go over my dance pants, and a panel skirt (also to wear over my dance pants). I've also been haunting a few re-purposing sites lately, and have a few ideas for some old t-shirts that are just floating around my closet and storage unit because they're too old or worn out in some places to actually wear. I need to get into the habit of re-purposing old clothing instead of just tossing it. I saw the cutest top made out of at least 4 or 5 different t-shirts the other day online. SUPER cute! I may just have to copy it....

To make me even more miserable about missing Tribal Fest (seriously, I was already packed!), I've been watching last year's performances on YouTube. Funny thing, that. I've got so many costuming ideas now. I just wish that I'd been able to take the workshops so I could learn a bunch of new moves.... Oh well. They're already planning numbers 9 &amp; 10, so I know that, unless California suffers "the BIG one" and slides into the ocean, I'll be going to at least Tribal Fest 9, if not 10 as well. Heck, if it were up to me, I'd be performing at Tribal Fest 14!

Also in my misery, I've been inspired to consider what other possible tattoos I want. I definitely want my cherry blossoms and koi fish, and I've always liked the swallow tattoos I've seen. I'm trying to figure out how to incorporate what I really want into a design that will still be pleasing (and easy to figure out!) when I'm dancing. I love the over-the-hips tattoos that a lot of dancers wind up getting. So accentuating! And I like the idea of having a trio of swallows up my left side, so I may look into that, as well. Oh, the possibilities! No worries tho - I have no plan to become completely covered. I do work in an office, after all, and we can't have any visible tattoos so I'm pretty conservative as far as tattoos go - no full sleeves for this chicky!

I also have a few books and movies I plan on catching up on over the course of the summer. I haven't watched this season's Lost yet, I am dying for some Dr. Who and perhaps some Poirot, as well. I discovered that the SciFi channel did a different storyline for Oz, called Tin Man - I plan on finding this on DVD in whatever way I possibly can, purchasing it if need be. Especially since Zooey Deschanel plays Dorothy Gale. I will probably buy it, come to think of it.... I'd also like some new exercise DVDs; I'd really like to try the series from Jillian Michaels. Perhaps someone out there would like to put it on my birthday list? =) Of course, if we're talking birthday presents, I wouldn't mind some new bellydancing gear from Melodia either (hint, hint).... Perhaps some tribal jewelry or some porcupine quills for my hair? Anybody?

Anyway, that's my update for today. Guess I'd better go get crackin' on that character analysis. Anyone want to go meet me for tea?</div>

crappy holiday spirit and junk

<div>stoopid holiday traffic. Will be glad when the holiday crazy season is over.

Since when did rushing around like mad ants to try to buy the one "just right" THING signify your love for your family and friends?

MY family and friends are getting homemade cookies and maybe some gift cards or magazine subscriptions. Mom gets a bottle of wine, and Sis gets a dvd.

Shopping done.

And for the psycho on the cell phone in her blue car while it's raining....

May all your cookies taste like over-boiled asparagus.

Happy Holidays!

ps - ENOUGH of the christmas playlists on the radio. The same five songs sung by different artists do NOT a holiday make!</div>
