Maqsoum
Tue, February 26, 2008 - 3:07 AMLove it! I've always been a rhythm-addict and now that I am developping a feeling for the character of the rich arab rhythms, hmm.
I got a slowed down maqsoum piece where the second tek is almost played like a dum so I was wondering that there was almost a saidi feel to it, anyway this heavy thing to it that I love so much. There is also a slow piece called Gamil Gamal the beat of which sounds like a saidi but the feeling is rather of maqsoum! I love it!
I'm becoming sort of an invalide from bellydance. Not apt for anything else anymore! I love especially maqsoum, saidi, masmoudi saghir!

an invalid from bellydance? Hmmmm, I have noticed that I now tend to dance bellydance movements to almost any music that is played live... sometimes to the point of feeling a little silly myself. But somehow I can't help it. Sometimes I do it on purpose, like when that Texan country music band played "How low can you go?" and I stole the singer's cowboy hat, did a backbend on the floor and did bellyrolls with the hat on my belly, thinking of GWB and "how low...." The musicians seemed to have mixed feelings aobut that act but they did not stop me. ; )

Haha, you are an amok-bellydancer! When I go to dance salsa I also improvise. The isolations + vibrations give you so many possibilties to play with the rhythm. I did improvise before but now I do even more boldly. But I try not to go overboard.

Amok-bellydancer? Hmmmm, well, I don't do bellydance when I go to tango, but then, someone is always leading my body...; )

I dance salsa with a man that from time to time lets go of me and we both improvise, still being connected. Heck it's all the rhythm. I wouldn't do big hipcircles or stuff, just a shimmy or a lock or for fun a little bodywave (he was looking like: what is she doing there, and I had a laugh). I don't take it seriously, it is for party.
Amok, I meant, whenever whereever it seizes you no matter where you are! |
